KAIN TAYO PILIPINAS is a flagship program under the Pilipinas Kontra Gutom (PKG) movement

The private sector, in collaboration with non-government organizations (NGOs) and government partners, launches KAIN TAYO PILIPINAS, an initiative that invites everyone including the public to help feed more Filipino children and equip families with nutrition information to help alleviate malnutrition especially amongst children 5 years and below.

KAIN TAYO PILIPINAS is a flagship program under the Pilipinas Kontra Gutom (PKG) movement, led by private corporations, media, NGOs together with the Department of Education, DOST-FNRI, and the National Nutrition Council. Launched during Nutrition month, this is a new milestone in the journey of the multi-sectoral movement which aims to uplift Filipino lives and help achieve Zero Hunger.

Malnutrition could cause irreversible damages which can affect them for the rest of their lives. One in three Filipino children experience undernourishment, and more children are at risk due to the impact of the pandemic. The initiative aims to complement feeding initiatives with education on nutrition.

Kain Tayo, Pilipinas! The private sector, in collaboration with non-government organizations (NGOs) and government partners, launches Kain Tayo Pilipinas, the flagship program of Pilipinas Kontra Gutom, a multi sectoral movement behind Task Force Zero Hunger which aims to eradicate hunger in the country. Present during the program (from left to right) Chief Executive Officer of Publicis Groupe Philippines Ken Lingan, Private Sector Lead of Pilipinas Kontra Gutom Margot Torres, Kain Tayo Pilipinas Lead Kristine Go, Task Force Zero Hunger Chairman Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, and National Program Head of Kusina ng Kalinga of Gawad Kalinga Mark Lawrence Cruz. National Nutrition Council Executive Director, Dr. Azucena Dayanghirang, also gave a speech through a pre-recorded video.

“The first 1,000 days of life are the most crucial to every child’s growth. We want to have nutritional intervention at the earliest stage because it’s not enough that Filipinos don’t go hungry, we also have to ensure that each individual is getting the right amount of nutrients to set them up for a healthy life,” shared KAIN TAYO PILIPINAS lead Kristine Go of Unilever Philippines.

The initiative is a collaboration of NGOS: ABS-CBN Foundation, GMA Kapuso Foundation, Kabisig ng Kalahi, Kusina ng Kalinga, Project Pearls, Rise Against Hunger, World Food Programme Philippines and Philippine Business for Social Progress; private sector companies: Aboitiz, Century Tuna, foodpanda, Grab, Johnson and Johnson, Lazada, McDonald’s, Nestle, PayMaya, SUN Business Network, Unilever, Universal Robina Corporation; media and digital partners: ABS-CBN, Academ-E, Facebook, GCash and GMA and communications and production partners: Publicis Groupe Philippines, Slingshot Manila, Film Pabrika and Greenbulb Communications

The three-fold approach of feeding, education and collaboration guides the movement in being able to holistically address the issue of hunger and malnutrition in the country. The feeding programs of the various organizations will be complemented by an education program to ensure that families are equipped to sustainably provide nutritious meals for everyone in the household. An analytics map will be utilized during the rollout to maintain zero overlap in the efforts of all participating partners of the movement. Another aspect is the call for the public’s participation to help reach more Filipino communities nationwide.

“It is very Filipino to use “Kain Tayo” as a greeting, and it is more often pleasantry rather than a real invitation to eat. We wanted to give a deeper meaning to this phrase, and it is our hope that by coming together and rallying all to help, we will be able to say “Kain Tayo” to millions of our hungry countrymen,” explains Publicis Groupe Philippines CEO, Ken Lingan.

Educating parents for sustained impact

Aside from providing meals, the initiative also covers teaching sessions and distribution of educational materials on breastfeeding, maternal and child supplementation, dietary diversity, low-cost fortified food, and sanitation to arm parents with knowledge they can apply everyday.

These educational efforts are aligned with the ongoing community and national nutrition programs developed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Health’s National Nutrition Council (NNC) and Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI). Kain Tayo Pilipinas will produce NNC and FNRI-approved materials such as a Mother’s Book for self-care and proper dietary planning in the child’s first 1,000 days as well as educational videos to complement the discussions on-site.

“We are grateful for the unwavering commitment of the private sector to join the zero hunger movement. The Kain Tayo Pilipinas program will go a long way in addressing the hunger and malnutrition problems especially among mothers and children who are 5 years and below,” commends Task Force Zero Hunger (TZFH) chairman, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles.

Call for Public Participation

“Walang magugutom pag lahat tutulong”’ captures the big role that the public plays in ensuring that we meet our goals for Kain Tayo Pilipinas. The group behind this undertaking comes from different leanings and backgrounds and are united by a common purpose: to help alleviate hunger and the nutritional gap among Filipino children. “We encourage the public to join us by helping us spread the word and by providing monetary support,” explained Go.

Any individual can donate as low as P25 to help bring meals and educate more Filipinos.

The launch was graced by Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles who chairs Task Force Zero Hunger, National Nutrition Council Executive Director Dr. Azucena Dayanghirang, Private Sector Lead of Pilipinas Kontra Gutom Margot Torres, Kain Tayo Pilipinas Lead Kristine Go, and Mark Lawrence Cruz of Gawad Kalinga. Other guests included representatives from Aboitiz, ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN Foundation, Century Tuna, Facebook, foodpanda, GMA Kapuso Foundation, Grab, Johnson and Johnson, Kabisig ng Kalahi, Kusina ng Kalinga, Lazada, McDonald’s, Nestle, PayMaya, Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), Project Pearls, Rise Against Hunger, SUN Business Network, Unilever, Universal Robina Corporation (URC), World Food Programme Philippines.

Binibini 24 Francesca Taruc wins Ms. Alagang Silka 2021

The Filipina has captivated the world. For many years, she has captured the hearts and imagination of the globe, not only because of her innate beauty, but also because of her undeniable intelligence, unparalleled grace, and committed drive to positively impact society.

Binibining Pilipinas has been proudly bannering these traits on the international stage, proving again and again the uniqueness of the Filipina. Now, on its 57th year, the most prestigious pageant in the country finds a new ally in Silka, which for two decades has been giving Filipinas walang dudang alaga. These two forces have come together to propel Filipino women to greater heights!

The partnership between Binibining Pilipinas and Silka comes as the latter celebrates a special milestone—its 20th anniversary. As Silka has built a legacy of empowering women through self-care / alaga sa sarili, teaming up with Binibining Pilipinas is significant in reinforcing commitment to women while positively impacting society at large.

L-R: Silka Brand Specialist Cody Caranto, Ms. Alagang Silka 2021- Binibini 24 Francesca Taruc, Silka Senior Brand Manager Eunice de belen

“Binibining Pilipinas has built itself to be the most prestigious pageant in the country. But more than that, it has been an organization that proudly advocates for the Filipina to the world,” according to Jane Co, VP for Marketing of Cosmetique Asia Corporation. “We at Silka are very proud to work with them in this year’s pageant as we aim to once again crown Filipina women that will represent the best of our country internationally.”

This new relationship between the two organizations resulted in a new special award given for the first time in this year’s Binibining Pilipinas pageant: the Ms. Alagang Silka title. Binibini #24 Francesca Taruc of Pampanga prevailed and took home the accolade of the first ever Ms. Alagang Silka title. Fran is no stranger to the limelight as she was crowned Miss Tourism World and Best Body Award in a pageant held in China back in 2019. She is a strong advocate of mental health awareness and women empowerment, which is in line with Silka’s mission of providing walang dudang alaga. Silka stands behind their belief that a big part of being a strong, independent woman lies in self-care. Before you can care for others, you must first care for yourself, whether it's mental health or physical wellness. Self-care, or “alaga sa sarili”, is essential for every Filipino. Strengthening one's resolve and commitment to self-betterment  enables us to fully support and take care of family and loved ones, contributing positively to community, society, and one’s chosen advocacy. After all, care or “alaga” has to start from within.

Ms. Alagang Silka 2021- Binibini 24 Francesca Taruc

Aside from the title of Ms. Alagang Silka, Taruc also takes home PhP 50,000 in cash and PhP 50,000 worth of Silka products. Apart from this special title, Silka had the unique opportunity of being entrusted with caring for the skin of the 34 beautiful Binibining Pilipinas candidates this year and empowering them to be the best they can be.

“The candidates of this year’s Binibining Pilipinas are the embodiment of the adage ‘grace under pressure’. We are here to give them walang dudang alaga and to help them take better care of themselves so that they can always put their best foot forward whatever opportunity they pursue,” Eunice de Belen, Senior Brand Manager of Silka added.

Silka has built its name by empowering Filipinas to be the best they can be through skin care products that are of the highest quality, and yet affordable. Their skincare products include bar and liquid soaps, lotion, deodorant, and facial care line. This legacy of excellence and empowerment has made Silka one of the most trusted and leading beauty brands in the country. In fact, it recently received the Best Brightening Bar Soap award from the Cosmopolitan Beauty Hot List 2021.

“We are humbled by the trust given by our new partner. This special tie-up with a trusted brand like Silka will allow us to continue our goal to look for empowered Filipina and showcase them in the whole world,” according to Irene Jose, COO of Uniprom Inc. and Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) board member.

vivo launches a social media contest — the Club 21:00 Self-Portrait

It’s a popular belief that the world is made for morning people. Everyone has heard it all before — “early to bed, early to rise,” “the early bird catches the worm,” “nothing good happens after 2 AM,” and so on and so forth. But for those people whose circadian rhythms beat to embrace the night, the late hours could mean better concentration and mental alertness, and a peaceful opportunity to be closer to themselves.

A woman of many passions, Club 21:00 member Maine Mendoza dedicates her evenings to her creative endeavors.

Inspiring a community of young Filipinos for whom the nighttime holds special significance, global smartphone brand vivo dawns the “Club 21:00”. Club 21:00 stems from the idea that 9 PM is usually the prime hour when night owls check out from their tasks for the day, and checks in to bring their dreams and passions to life.

With this, vivo launches a social media contest — the Club 21:00 Self-Portrait — to encourage the evening people to seize the night and capture their most creative moments. All they have to do is “check in” by sharing a post of their 21:00 pursuit on Instagram and tag @vivo_philippines and @viceasia. They should also include the hashtag #CheckInToClub2100. The contest will choose 21 best entries and award a winner to receive a brand-new vivo smartphone.

They will also get a chance to be featured on the i-D.com website, along with a few other celebrities and artists. The lineup includes vivo Selfie Portrait Master Maine Mendoza, celebrity and beauty queen Megan Young, musician Kean Cipriano, local photographers Artu Nepomuceno, Je Villaroman, and Inez Moro.

By sharing their stories and the ideas that keep them up at night, evening people can take advantage of vivo’s special prize and capture their best selfies using the 44 MP front camera installed in the V21 smartphone. It also has an optical image stabilizer (OIS) technology, which helps the phone take clear and sharp photos even in low light. No need to worry about the dim lighting during the night as the phone does the work inside and out.

Another feature everyone can take advantage of is the vivo V21’s extended RAM. By incorporating a virtual 3 GB memory on top of its built-in RAM of 8 GB, vivo allows its users to have the fastest user experience with a memory that supports data from multiple apps. This way, night owls can remain productive as they pursue passions and activities that feel personal to them.

Share the night stories that bring you closer to yourself by joining vivo’s Club 21:00 Self-Portrait photo contest. Just post your 21:00/9 PM “check-in” selfie on Instagram with the hashtag #CheckInClub2100.

Additional details on the vivo V21 series can be found on vivo’s Philippines on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. For vivo V21 5G, you also check out https://www.vivoglobal.ph/phone-orig/vivo-V21-5g/. For vivo V21e, please visit https://www.vivoglobal.ph/phone/vivo-V21e/.

Job to Cart: Applying is as easy as online shopping

With the growing demand for new and relevant skills, leading online job portal JobStreet reveals key findings on the Filipino workforce’s view on reskilling, upskilling, and digital learning from their recent Decoding Global Talent Survey.

When it comes to upskilling, 77% of Filipino employees are willing to be retrained for a different job as needed, according to JobStreet’s Decoding Global Talent Survey released last May. This is even higher among blue collar workers at 82%.

The growing number of workers who value upskilling or retraining and acquiring multiple skills can be attributed to the need for job security. As the pandemic has changed the work landscape, candidates are more willing to learn additional or new skills to be able to remain efficient in their jobs during the quarantine economy.

“Job roles are transforming faster than ever and both hirers and candidates must understand the need for upskilling for them to be more competitive and employable, respectively. Besides, it sustains a culture of learning in the workplace, hence improving overall productivity and resiliency at the time of crisis,” shared JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca.

The same survey reveals that Filipino workers’ learning preferences are still traditional with On-the-Job Training at 70% shown as the most preferred way of upskilling, followed by Self-study at 63%, and Conferences and Seminars at 56%.

Job resiliency

Aside from the number of employees who are willing to learn additional skills, the report also features higher-risk and lower-risk jobs in terms of resiliency due to automation.

JobStreet recommends for companies to build plans to expand the skills of their workers especially those in Customer Service, Service Sector, Administration and Secretariat, and Arts and Creative Work, which are at higher risk.

Meanwhile, employees in lower-risk jobs such as Management, Engineering and Technical, Science and Research, Law, Health and Medicine, Social Care, IT and Technology, and Digitalization and Automation are also recommended to upskill or be trained to stay relevant.

“We can see that automation has become a key factor in the workplace, so it is an advantage to learn digital skills regardless of your job role,” Gioca added.

Making job seeking easier amidst recovery

While economic recovery is on the horizon, JobStreet understands that applying for jobs remains a challenge among Filipino candidates. To help jobseekers, JobStreet’s “Job To Cart” online event is providing applicants with thousands of career opportunities nationwide.

Happening from July 26 to 30, “Job To Cart” gives participants a variety of career choices over its five day run, with applications done through easy-to-use chatbots and live chat features with participating employers.

Day 1 will be dedicated to Luzon-based jobs, then on Day 2, available positions from Visayas-Mindanao jobs will be added. Day 3 is launching entry-level jobs, while Day 4 introduces overseas opportunities, and Day 5 opens government support and services.

Candidates can also catch JobStreet’s Facebook Live Shows, featuring special musical guests Fighting Monday, Reese Lansangan, and The Juans.

Guests will also talk about their experiences in job searching and working in an office. With the help of hosts Show Suzuki and Bea Benedicto, JobStreet will also present job vacancies that are up for grabs through “Job To Cart” during the livestream.

“Job To Cart is an effort that aims to make applying for jobs a more entertaining activity just as how much we Filipinos enjoy online shopping. Hopefully, through this online event, we are able to help more candidates rebuild their careers and find a job that matters to them,” said Gioca.

Job seekers can pre-register now through http://jobstreet.com.ph/vcf-21

Jollibee’s new TV commercial highlights why Chickenjoy is becoming a world-class food icon

Filipinos are well known and loved around the world. That much can’t be denied, as our culture and race have made a lot of notable contributions to the international scene. Whether it’s unbeatable creative talent, inventions that help shape our lives, or simply the tireless workforce that helps keep everything going, Filipinos have long been the source of wonderful things.

But out of all the contributions the Philippines has given the world, there’s nothing quite like Jollibee Chickenjoy. The best-tasting crispylicious, juicylicious fried chicken has become an iconic taste that brings so much joy to so many people not just at home, but all around the globe.

Jollibee’s new TV commercial highlights why Chickenjoy is becoming a world-class food icon. This new ad features three iconic Filipino household names—Pia Wurtzbach, Anne Curtis, and Aga Muhlach—each representing an aspect of Chickenjoy that makes it the pride of the Philippines.

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach represents the Joy of Filipino Pride, as Chickenjoy as a Philippine product is well-loved by both Filipinos and foreigners alike. Foreigners love it for its highly sought-after experience, while Filipinos abroad always look for it because it gives them a much-needed taste of home.

“When I’m abroad, I always try to look for a Jollibee store so I can have Chickenjoy that reminds me of home no matter where I am. As a Filipino, I’m proud that many people around the world love Chickenjoy as much as we do,” said Pia.

Top star Anne Curtis represents the Joy of Famous Taste, as the crispylicious and juicylicious taste of Jollibee’s iconic fried chicken brings joy to everyone, everywhere. Anne Curtis is the perfect fit to represent the Chickenjoy’s famous taste, as the multi-talented actress—who’s won fame and recognition both locally and internationally—comes full circle as her own career began after she was serendipitously discovered eating and enjoying Chickenjoy at a Jollibee store as a balikbayan.

Anne’s enjoyment of the Chickenjoy is a testament to its world-famous, absolutely unique, and truly delicious taste, which is also why Jollibee is referred to as the “Home of the Famous Chickenjoy” outside the Philippines.

“I’ve had many different fried chicken, but there’s really nothing that compares to the crispylicious and juicylicious Chickenjoy. I’m proud that a lot of people both in the Philippines and abroad agree that it’s undeniably great-tasting fried chicken,” said Anne.

Lastly, Philippine showbiz legend Aga Muhlach represents the Joy of Family Through the Years, as Chickenjoy has also played a huge part in bringing families together over the many decades. Chickenjoy serves as a great family bonding meal, allowing everyone to become closer over the best-tasting fried chicken.

“I know first-hand the ability of Chickenjoy to bring families together, as my own family loves to bond over a bucket of Chickenjoy. I’m proud that it brings people closer together across the world,” said Aga.

“There’s no mistaking the global impact of Chickenjoy, and we’re truly proud that we are able to create a homegrown product that the world can fall in love with. Our three ambassadors truly represent the best aspects of the Chickenjoy, and we are happy to tell the Chickenjoy’s story through them,” said Cathleen D. Capati, Jollibee Marketing - AVP for Bestsellers.

Your favorite best-tasting Jollibee Chickenjoy is available at your nearest Jollibee store! Have it safely delivered to you via the Jollibee Delivery App, JollibeeDelivery.com, #87000, GrabFood, foodpanda, and LalaFood! It’s also available in Drive-Thru and Take Out.

Dear Self, Keep calm and love your family

Dear Self,

When people ask me if I know a strong person, you know I’ll be the first to raise both of your hands—and feet.

To say that you’ve been through a lot would be an understatement and you’ve endured more pain than anyone I know.

Pain from all those physical operations, pain from emotional heartaches, pain from disappointments and failures and all other sorts of pain if there was a pain spectrum.

When you decided to pass on your dreams to start a family with the man you thought would stay beside you through thick and thin. You braved two decades of fear and uncertainty as you tried to grasp for straws before realizing there was nothing to hold on to and it was time to leave.

You left, with very little pride and even lower self esteem, even though you knew it was going to be hard and that your children would suffer the consequences. But you also had to show them how to be brave, to let them know its okay to let go before you totally lose yourself.

Because it was the best thing to do, for your sanity, for your own being, for them.

You were broken and you needed to fix yourself first.

Those KDramas had nothing compared to what you had to go through. It wasn’t easy, go start again, but you made it this far. You deserve a pat at the back woman.

Then the pandemic came. Since all of your kids now have  their own family, you worry more about them than yourself, praying everyday to keep them and their kids safe and healthy.

So when you received a call from one of them telling you that he had COVID-19, it was as if you were the one who tested positive. All you could do was cry every night, asking for God’s miraculous healing praying because you couldn’t take care of them.

Thankfully, God answered your prayers and they called back after a week or two to let you know that they were okay and slowly recovering.

God is good indeed. This pandemic has brought families closer and you became more connected with your kids. You have been texting and calling them more than usual. You have been visiting your parents and had a long and fruitful conversations that you wouldn’t be able to do because you had no time. You were always busy with work, you were always home late, you were too busy with needless things you forget what is important—family.

This pandemic has given the time to reconnect with your family and that was great, because you feel loved and your kids also got the chance to open up to you to talk about things you never thought they’d confide in you.

All those years you thought you were doing great, you suddenly realize you weren’t the perfect parent. That you didn’t have the monopoly of right decisions that they were hurt by some of the choices you made. It wasn’t until you got the chance to have a heart to heart talk and listen to them that you realized just how much you loved them even more. You discovered that the most important things in this world are not “ things” but the the love and connection with your family.

This is the perfect time to appreciate all your blessings and find ways of acknowledging them. And most importantly you now have time.

You suddenly have time to exercise, to change your diet. To make better decisions.  Or just spend your nights watching movies and share a laugh with your partner.

And you tell yourself, do not waste time on negative thoughts.

You have to live longer for your kids and grandkids. Because after this pandemic you need to spend more time with them, watch them grow, have fun, and hopefully travel with them soon.

Then you realize the reason for the all the pain. It’s for you to learn how to appreciate the most important people in your life.

This pandemic has thought you to be more open, loving and supportive and this new normal is all about making things better.
