Jollibee shares 4 best parenting hacks and tips you should try for better parenting in the new normal

Whether we’re ready for it or not, parenting definitely changed during the pandemic. As everyone has to work or take classes at home for their health and safety, the needs of a parent have evolved.

If you’ve been struggling a little to match the demands of parenting in the new normal, worry not—here are a few tips to help you adapt to these times.

  1. Set a schedule

Make a plan for yourself and help your kids plan their day. First, organize your day so you can focus better on your necessary tasks. Then, help your kids organize their day so that the important things during their online classes are prioritized. This will allow them to look forward to relaxing and unwinding after all the schoolwork is done. When kids know they have some rest and recreation time to look forward to, they’ll be able to participate better in their remote learning.

  1. Encourage healthy routines in the household

Maintaining a proper and healthy lifestyle is considered to be one of the most important things you can do to achieve good physical, mental, and social well-being — especially in the new normal. A fun activity you can do with your kids is exercising regularly. To make it more interesting, instead of the usual exercises, try exploring games that’ll make them break a sweat such as DIY obstacle courses, treasure hunts, and many more. Be creative!

  1. Take a midday shower

One good way to refresh your kids and keep them going is to have them take a quick shower in the middle of the day, preferably after lunch. You can do it too! It gets rid of the midday fatigue that’s built up from staring at a screen all morning, and it will energize them (and you) for the rest of the day.

  1. Bond over activities and food

There are many moments in this pandemic where your kids will need you to be there for them. You need to set aside time in the day to give them your complete and undivided attention. Try playing fun activities and games with your kids and see how much stress can be lifted every day. Bond over mealtimes with food that will make them happy, such as Jollibee’s Jolly Spaghetti! The meatiest, cheesiest, and sweet-sarap na walang katulad taste of Jolly Spaghetti will make these moments truly memorable! It’s always better to put a smile on their face with their favorite food while spending time at home.

Get the Jolly Spaghetti from your nearest Jollibee store for only PHP 50.00 solo, and PHP 200.00 for a Family Pan! Have them safely delivered to you via the Jollibee Delivery App, JollibeeDelivery.com, #87000, GrabFood, and foodpanda! Also available in Drive-Thru and Take Out!

Huawei donates $200,000, or about P10.11 million, to PLDT Smart Foundation (PSF)

Chinese tech giant Huawei has donated $200,000, or about P10.11 million, to PLDT Smart Foundation (PSF) to help fund the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs of PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications Inc.

The CSR initiatives for funding to be determined by both PSF and Huawei will include disaster response, rehabilitation and recovery, promotion and enhancement of education in the country, environmental conservation, and the use of technology in health services.

“I would like to thank Huawei for the $200,000 donation to PSF, which will go a long way in supporting our CSR programs like education, disaster relief, environment, telehealth, and many more,” PSF chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said.

PLDT and Smart have been longtime partners with Huawei.

PSF and Huawei’s partnership started years ago when Chinese tech giant donated disaster relief equipment, such as tents, rechargeable lights, and other tools, for PSF’s disaster response program.

It has also contributed 13 sets of school-in-a-bag with Huawei laptops for Smart’s education program, and the recent telehealth equipment for Makati Medical Center and Cardinal Santos hospitals.

Huawei vice president Daniel Guo said the company intends to contribute more to the country through its support to the programs and initiatives of PSF.

Huawei is a leading global provider of ICT infrastructure and smart devices.

It operates in over 170 countries and regions, serving more than three billion people around the world.

“The initiatives were chosen to align with the program sectors of PSF, as well as to highlight the technology solutions of Huawei. These programs are also aligned with Huawei’s overall CSR strategy,” PSF president Ma. Esther Santos said.

“Moving forward, PSF projects will try to inject technology solutions enabled by technology companies Huawei and PLDT-Smart. This is also aligned with PSF’s vision-mission of a connected, empowered, progressive Philippines,” she said.

PSF, which serves as the social outreach arm of PLDT and Smart, has created programs focused on education, livelihood and social enterprise, disaster response and recovery, youth, arts, and sports development.

Keep your children protected with vaccines

As Filipinos continue to get inoculated against the COVID-19 virus, it’s important to also pay attention to other vaccines that contribute to a person’s wellbeing. National Immunization Awareness Month is celebrated every August to emphasize the importance of vaccination for people of all ages.

This is especially true for children, who are more vulnerable to diseases because of their underdeveloped immune systems. When they are vaccinated, they develop infection-fighting antibodies that protect them from many diseases as they grow up. It also contributes to herd immunity, which prevents the spread of diseases, even for those who are not vaccinated.[1]

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), routine vaccinations during childhood help prevent 14 diseases. For children born from 1994 to 2018, it will inhibit an estimated 936,000 early deaths, eight million hospitalizations, and 419 million illnesses.[2]

Below are just some of the diseases that vaccinations can stop:

Pneumonia. Pneumonia is a lung infection caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Inflammation in the air sacs in the lungs, called alveoli, causes it to fill with fluid or pus, resulting in breathing difficulty. Most people recover from pneumonia but some cases can be fatal.

Flu. The flu, or influenza, is a respiratory illness caused by viruses. It infects the nose, throat, and even the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, with symptoms ranging from a cough to a sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches, and fatigue. Some cases include a fever, while children may also be exposed to vomiting and diarrhea. The CDC says that the first step to prevent this disease is an annual flu vaccine.

Measles. Measles is a viral infection that affects children. This is marked by fever, dry cough, runny nose, sore throat, inflamed eyes or conjunctivitis, and a skin rash. Vaccines are recommended to prevent measles, with doctors usually giving the first dose at 12 to 15 months.[3]

Mumps. Mumps is caused by paramyxovirus that involves pain, tenderness, and swelling in the parotid salivary glands in the cheek and jaw area. It is a contagious disease that can be transmitted through direct contact, saliva, or droplets from an infected person. According to CDC, vaccination is the best way to prevent the disease. It is usually included in the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine combination administered during the 12 to 15 months. A second dose is also advised when a child reaches four to six years old.[4] Mumps can still appear on fully vaccinated individuals but they are less likely to have severe complications.[5]

German Measles. German Measles, also known as rubella, is a viral infection that can spread from one person to another through direct contact or droplets from an infected person. It is a highly contagious disease common in children ages five to nine years old. It is recommended for children between 12 to 15 months old to get the rubella vaccine to prevent the disease. Children are also advised to get a booster shot when they reach four to six years old.[6]

Polio. Polio, short for poliomyelitis, is a potentially fatal disease caused by the poliovirus. This illness gives flu-like symptoms including sore throat, fever, tiredness, and nausea. More serious cases affect the brain and spinal cord and lead to paralysis. The polio vaccine is recognized to protect children, with the CDC noting that 99 kids out of 100[7] who have been inoculated will be shielded from this disease.

Hepatitis. This is an inflammatory condition of the liver caused by a viral infection due to contaminated food and water or direct contact with infected blood. There are five types of hepatitis: A is an acute, short-term disease, while B, C, D, and E can be chronic.

Chickenpox. Chickenpox is a disease caused by a virus. It results in an itchy blister-like rash that spreads over the entire body. The disease can be life-threatening and highly contagious. According to the CDC, up to 90% of the people surrounding someone who has it will become infected if they are not immune. Two doses of the vaccine are more than 90% effective in preventing chickenpox.

Vaccines normally come with side effects that can be reduced with medication. One common side effect is fever.[8]Children who experience fever after vaccination can rely on Paracetamol Calpol for Kids.

Paracetamol Calpol for Kids has been trusted by parents globally for many years to alleviate mild to moderate fever associated after a vaccine shot. It starts to relieve fever in just 15 minutes. Paracetamol Calpol for Kids also eases fever and pain discomfort related to toothaches, headaches, migraine, muscle ache, sore throat and musculoskeletal pain.

Paracetamol Calpol for Kids provides fast fever relief[9] and is gentle on delicate tummies. It comes in different variants and delicious flavors for kids of all ages:
