SM showed us the most uplifting way to best celebrate the season with “100 Days of Caring"

The past years have always had us counting down to the most wonderful time of the year when the ‘ber’ months roll in; Christmas carols fill the air, dazzling tree lights dot the streets, shopping for gifts becomes a sport, and everyone else goes on a diet to make way for Christmas feasts.

This year may not be as festive as previous years, but it will most certainly be more meaningful. SM showed us the most uplifting way to best celebrate the season with “100 Days of Caring”;  featuring 100 days of spreading love, thoughtfulness, and care for one another and for the communities surrounding our favorite SM malls. The virtual event showcasing the pledges happened Thursday, Sept 16, 2021 over FB Live and WatchSM on YouTube.

“100 days of Caring”. To kickstart the Christmas countdown, SM pledged to donate to over 10,000 beneficiaries, namely communities in need, hardworking SM employees, medical frontliners and dedicated delivery partners, among others. Some of the beneficiaries and their partner malls are as follows:

‘Gift’ for your mental health. Aside from our physical health being at risk during a pandemic, our mental health is also affected due to the stress and anxiety these times bring. And since SM believes in the value of taking care of our mental health, Dr Gia Sison, MD DPCOM gave a  ‘Call to Share’ talk during the virtual launch. Dr Gia Sison is a mental health advocate and co-founder of PH Leader Livestrong Foundation. Her talk centered on how to cope during this stressful time and still find hope in a better tomorrow.

100 voices that care. If there’s one thing that binds us all Filipinos together, it’s our passion and love for music. While we may not be allowed to have big gatherings this year, SM entertained the audience with the performance of the 3 Divas – Rahda, Frenchie and Bituin Escalante; later on joined by 100 artists, singers, and SM employees and stakeholders who came together to sing during the virtual launch on Sept 16.

We may be in the middle of a pandemic, times may be tough, and many of us may be physically apart, but let’s not forget what this season truly means. To view the event, go to WatchSM on YouTube.

Ganden Medved-Po unveils his ocean photography book “Life Below Water”

The ocean covers about 70 percent of the Earth’s surface, serving as a home to diverse and breathtaking underwater gardens and marine wildlife. Truly, there is much to be discovered in the vast underwater world, and 17-year old photographer Ganden Medved-Po will give us a glimpse of its beauty as he unveils his ocean photography book.

A joint project with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) – Philippines, “Life Below Water” is a compilation of photos featuring scenic seascapes and surreal marine life. The photos in the book were taken between 2020 and 2021 by Ganden during the COVID-19 pandemic under the mentorship of world-renowned underwater photographer Scott “Gutsy” Tuason.

All proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit the sustainable fisheries work of the World Wide Fund for Nature - Philippines.

“I’m proud of this collaborative project with the WWF because it combines two of my passions in life: photography and the ocean. With the help of my mentor, Gutsy Tuason, we were able to capture beautiful images of our marine life in the Philippines. Through these photos, I hope people will have a better appreciation of our oceans and to learn to care for them more,” said Ganden.

WWF-Philippines Executive Director Katherine P. Custodio lauded Ganden for lending his talent, time and effort to promote awareness on marine conservation. “‘Life Below Water’ is a young person’s experience of the ocean, expressed through his chosen art of photography.  The book is a reminder of why, what, how, and for whom we do our work of protecting our oceans.” She also added, “To Ganden, thank you for helping our fishing communities and for doing that in a way that is touching and inspiring. It gives me so much hope that young people like you and your peers in the WWF National Youth Council are doing what you can to change what would otherwise be a tragic ending for many people in our country. You are showing us how the power of one can create positive action in many.”

Ganden’s love for the water started at a very young age, and by the time he was eight years old, he was swimming competitively. It was also around that time when he developed a love for photography. “The first time I started taking photos was probably on my parents’ old camera which they would use to document family celebrations and occasions. That was an old Panasonic camera,” said the upcoming photographer, who is the son of Christopher Po, chairman of Century Pacific Food, Inc. and Nanette Medved-Po, founder and chairperson of HOPE and Plastic Credit Exchange.

Currently, his camera of choice is the Sony Rx100, which has been with him on all his adventures.

Now a senior high school student in International School Manila, Ganden expresses his gratitude for his parents for encouraging him to pursue his love for photography and the ocean while advocating for the environment. Apart from being the team captain of the school’s swimming varsity team, he is also active in various organizations including the Photography Club Council where he organizes events and workshops, as well as the Ocean ActivISM council, advocating for ocean conservation and sustainability. In July 2021, he became a member of the WWF-Philippines National Youth Council.

Launching officially in the Philippines on September 23, the realme GT Master Edition and the realme Book offer a premium yet affordable experience ideal for multi-faceted millennials, young professionals, and students looking to enable their passions with innovative technology.

“realme’s new offerings represent some of the very best in technology, at a price that’s affordable and accessible to many Filipinos. We look forward to helping the realme Squad in accomplishing their goals and achieving their full potential with the realme GT Master Edition and the realme Book,” said Austine Huang, realme Philippines’ VP for Marketing. “These two products are truly the embodiment of our ‘premium affordable’ philosophy, and we can’t wait for everyone to experience them ”, adds Huang.

Experience #MasteryBeyondSpeed with the real flagship disruptor

Filipinos looking for a flagship smartphone at an affordable price can turn to the realme GT Master Edition, which promises #MasteryBeyondSpeed.

The GT Master Edition boasts a powerful performance with the industry-leading Snapdragon 778G Processor that allows for a smooth and seamless daily smartphone experience, whether for working, creating content, or mobile gaming. This also enables the phone for 5G connectivity as 5G mobile networks are rapidly emerging in the country.

Design is one of the defining characteristics of the realme GT Master Edition as realme strived to push the boundaries of product design once more. The Voyager Grey colorway is designed by world-renowned industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa who is best known for his work with brands such as MUJI, Herman Miller and many more. It sports a suitcase design, taking inspiration from the concept of travel and exploration. The variant is also made of exquisite vegan leather, which is the first concave vegan leather in the industry, so as to replicate the horizontal grid of the suitcase.

The realme GT Master Edition also comes in a Daybreak Blue colorway, which is inspired by the colors of dawn, and uses Japan’s patented PICASUS technology that covers the phone in a nano-laminate coating giving it a shiny, metallic, and holographic feel. Both colorways are slim and lightweight; the Daybreak Blue comes in at 8mm thickness and weighs in at a lean 174g, while the Voyager Grey measures 8.7mm and weighs 180g.

All your favorite content and games come through crisp and clear on the realme GT Master Edition’s industry-leading Samsung Super AMOLED display, with a 120Hz screen refresh rate and a 360Hz touch sampling rate, guaranteeing lag-free visuals. The colors are lively and vibrant as well, thanks to the 100% DCI-P3 color display.

When it comes to gaming, the realme GT Master Edition is guaranteed to handle popular games such as Mobile Legends, Genshin Impact, Axie Infinity, and many more with its built-in Vapor Chamber Cooling System, which greatly reduces temperatures from the phone’s heat sources to keep it consistently performing well. The phone also charges quickly with 65W SuperDart Charge technology, which can get it to 50% in only 13 minutes, allowing you to enjoy your smartphone experience for longer.

Other features of the realme GT Master Edition include a 64MP Primary Camera and a 32MP Selfie Camera for all your photography and videography needs.  In addition, the realme GT Master Edition will be available in two storage variants: 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage, and 8GB RAM + 256GB internal storage

realme’s first ever laptop is #DesignedToEmpower

In line with its mission to provide a well-rounded digital experience to every Filipino, realme dares to disrupt the laptop category with its first ever laptop, the realme Book, which is the perfect device for multi-faceted millennials and students, with features designed to empower them in their modern lifestyles.

Do everything you need to without hassle and worry with the realme Book’s 11th Gen Intel® Core™ Processor in Core i3 and Core i5 variants and 8GB dual-channel LPDDR4x RAM. It adopts the 10nm SuperFin manufacturing process that provides excellent energy efficiency performance and carries the new CPU + GPU structure, making it perform much better than the previous generation. The realme Book’s 512GB SSD storage also guarantees memory space for all your apps and files, as well as quick startups every time.

The realme Book’s 14” display also boasts a high-resolution of 2160x1440 pixels, which is 1.5x more than a 1080p display, making it unbelievably clear. It also has 100% sRGB color gamut screens that make colors pop even more, as well as a 3:2 ratio that shows more content, making it ideal for office use, graphic design, and entertainment. The display is also brighter than most laptops at 400 nits, 33% brighter than most laptops, ensuring clearness and visibility even outdoors. The display’s ultra-narrow 5.3mm bezel also breaks the visual boundary, bringing more stunning visual effects and a more immersive experience.

For users constantly on the go, the realme Book is highly portable due to its slim 14.9mm-thick body and light 1.38-kg weight, uncommon for 14-inch laptops and thinner than other leading brands. Despite its slimness, it’s also sturdy with an aluminum alloy body that is not only comfortable, but also has a premium look and feel, coming in Real Silver and Real Blue colorways.

Other premium features on the realme Book include a 54Wh large battery that boasts up to 11 hours of usage time for everyday office tasks, coupled with the patented 65W Super-Fast Charge technology that charges the realme Book to 50% in only 30 minutes—and is also compatible with other realme and USB-C devices. It is also equipped with Stereo Sound by DTS (Powerful Bass Sound by HARMAN) for a crystal-clear audio experience.

Catch the official unveiling of the realme GT Master Edition and the realme Book, on September 23, 6 p.m. on the realme Philippines Facebook page and YouTube channel. The realme Squad can also look forward to exciting deals and promos to be offered during this highly anticipated launch.

BRIA Homes has initiated sustainable practices across its more than fifty residential projects in the country

BRIA Homes, one of the country’s top developers of best-value housing, is fast catching the eye of environment-conscious millennials as it builds sustainably safe and healthy communities in key locations nationwide. For BRIA, sustainability is not a term to be used loosely. The catchphrase “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” may sum up environmentalists’ day-to-day practices, but there is more to sustainability than conserving resources and recycling household wastes.

Another sustainable, eco-friendly BRIA initiative is Sentro, a wide and open space where homeowners can come together to connect and socialize.

In its broader context, sustainability means seeing to humankind’s everyday needs without inflicting long-term damage on the planet so that it may be kept habitable for the forthcoming generations.

It’s a vision that BRIA Homes shares with values-driven young Filipinos who, studies now show, make up a substantial segment of the local property market. These twenty- to thirtysomethings are seen to be readily adopting more environmentally friendly lifestyles and are expected to buy homes in communities that support their choices.

For this reason, BRIA Homes has initiated sustainable practices across its more than fifty residential projects in the country. Red Rosales, President of BRIA Homes, relates that as a highly trusted housing developer, BRIA tries to preserve an important element of sustainability: ecological integrity. “This involves the judicious use of water, land, energy, and non-renewable resources; the reuse and recycling of household wastes; and the utilization of appropriate technology that serves to reduce the carbon footprint of our communities,” he asserts.

Known as the home-of-choice of Filipinos, particularly Overseas Filipino Workers and millennials, BRIA Homes is recognized for its value-for-money, high-quality dwellings in safe and family-friendly communities.

BRIA has installed solar-powered streetlights in all of its communities

“An essential feature of BRIA,” Rosales points out, “is the sleek, modern designs of its house models, attributes that are not usually associated with homes that the average Filipino can afford. “BRIA has all these in environmentally sound living spaces. After all, we believe that Filipinos deserve to experience sustainable lifestyles and the time for this is now.”

To significantly reduce its carbon footprints, BRIA has installed solar-powered streetlights in all of its communities. Apart from enhancing the contemporary vibe at all BRIA developments, solar-powered streetlights sources energy from the sun, stores it throughout the day, then lights up the streets from dusk till dawn.

BRIA’s solar-powered lights also make its recreational facilities, perimeter roads, gardens, parks, walking paths, and entrances safer to use and navigate, especially on evenings when residents are inclined to step out and catch some fresh air.

“Solar-powered streetlights are also very economical to use and require almost no maintenance,” Rosales says. “Without external wires, the possibility of accidents such as electrocution is also lessened.”

Another sustainable, eco-friendly BRIA initiative is Sentro, a wide and open space where homeowners can come together to connect and socialize. With its multi-function hall, parks, and playgrounds, residents are encouraged to mingle, exercise, and live more active lifestyles.

Sentro also houses BRIA’s amenity hub, which includes a Health Center, a Day Care Center, a Senior Citizen center, and a Barangay Center.

Because BRIA Homes wishes to make this sustainable lifestyle accessible to many Filipinos, it continues to use its efficient formula: Affordability (Mura) + Quality (Dekalidad) = A Beautiful BRIA Home for Every Filipino.

Rosales shares, “As a company that is aware of the long-term effects of sustainable practices, we are coming up with more ways to help preserve the environment. The simple things that we do—if we do these collectively—will surely mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.”

To check out BRIA projects and other services, interested individuals and families can visit BRIA’s website, which features 360 virtual tours. Prospective homeowners may also inquire online through the BRIA Facebook page, or reserve a propery online via BRIA’s online reservation page.  irresistible

Celebrating Everyday Heroes with a #WelcomeHomeSafe Treat

With the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of Filipinos continue to battle the threat of staying outdoors and the risks that come with it. Frontliners have went above and beyond with their public service, making sure that our lives continue, despite the lack of movement outside our homes.

Edison Awa, a 31-year-old J&T delivery rider continues to work outside for his family, despite the risks that he might encounter. “Ako ay kumakayod para sa aking pamilya. Kahit mahirap ang buhay, lalo na ngayon na may banta ng COVID-19 sa ating kapaligiran, pilit ako lumalaban para sa aking pamilya. Sila ang inspirasyon ko para mabuhay at sila din ang aking sandigan. Kaya naman itong pagsisikap ko ay inaalay ko sa kanila.”

#WelcomeHomeSafe Deliveries

"Despite the challenges that delivery riders faced during this COVID-19 crisis, they have shown resilience and dedication to fulfil their job without any hesitation. Thus, they truly deserve to be protected and safeguarded from viruses especially as they get home from work,” shared Zoe Chi, Vice President of J&T Express.[AJ1]

Since the start of lockdown, J&T rider, Edison washes his daily uniform with Ariel, 3-4 times a week to protect himself and his family. Celebrating Everyday Heroes with a #WelcomeHomeSafe Treat

And just like our hardworking J&T Express riders, there are thousands more everyday heroes that Ariel wants to give the #WelcomeHomeSafe experience to. Ariel celebrates these warriors and advocates for #WelcomeHomeSafe for them and their families.

Atom Araullo, Ariel’s newest brand ambassador, recently celebrated and gave recognition to a hundred essential workers who shared their heartwarming stories in a Facebook livestream, in line with the #WelcomeHomeSafe campaign.

Joemari Bayaua Molina is a TNVS driver who puts himself at risk to germs and viruses, so he could provide for his family. “Maliban po doon sa gamit niyang [Joemari] alcohol sa loob ng sasakyan, bago po siya pumasok ng bahay, kailangan po siya maghugas. So, alcohol po talaga. Tapos bago po siya pumasok, may plangana at Ariel na,” shared Joemari’s wife when asked about how their current #WelcomeHomeSafe routine.

Rowena Estacio expresses her support towards the many delivery riders who put themselves at risk every day. “Bumagyo man o tindi ng init ng araw tuloy pa din ang kanilang serbisyo! Hindi alintana ang ulan, init, pagud, gutom at risk sa kalsada maihatid lang ang inyong pangangailangan sa tamang oras.”

Melvin Oroceo, works an 8-5 shift as a delivery rider, sending two hundred and more packages in a week. “As a father who always work for our family who's always on the road, because he is a micro finance collector, we are aware that he is prone to many floating molds, bacteria and viruses specially handling money from different clients.” Realyn Quiozon, Melvin’s wife shared her concern regarding her husband’s job.

“We make sure that before he enter[s] our home he completely, did sanitation by hand washing, sanitizing, soaking his clothes with Ariel because we have kids that [we] need to protect and it would be my best auxiliary before going inside our home.” Realyn shared in her #WelcomeHomeSafe post.

“Safety first during pandemic!” Mary Rose Amazon shares her priority for her partner, Ariel Cruzada, who works as a security guard for 12 hours, from 8 AM.

Roxanne Gozum Reyes proudly shares his husband, Raffael Reyes, a mall worker, and their daily routine in keeping their family safe.

After a long day of working outside despite the risks, essential workers look forward to arriving home safely to their families. Ariel aims to protect Filipino delivery riders and all other essential workers so they can be #WelcomeHomeSafe everyday as they go home to their families from outside exposure.

In his speech during the awarding ceremony, Todd Liu, President of Huawei Philippines Enterprise Business Group, expressed his deep appreciation for the continued participation of Filipino ICT students, teachers and universities in the annual global competition.

"Our mission remains the same, we created a non-profit platform for teachers and students all over the world to acquire and apply valuable skills. We were able to address and equip the next generation with the new needs of the industry by facilitating international exchange, communication and knowledge transfer," Liu said, affirming Huawei's commitment to developing the ICT talent ecosystem.

Hon. Prospero De Vera, Chairman of the Commission on Higher Education, recognized Huawei's contribution to the Philippine education sector, saying: "CHED has been working closely with Huawei to support innovative technological interventions in education during the pandemic. Huawei ICT Academy champions and cultivates the skills of students, turning professional application into real-world ICT change through ICT." He added that CHED "will continue to thrive under the restrictions of the pandemic through programs from the ICT community."

Sharing his insights with the attendees, Dr. William Torres, touted as the "Father of the Philippine Internet," said "students have honed more skills and gained more knowledge through the Huawei ICT Competition."

He explained that through this process, students learn more about the real-life application of ICT. "More importantly, students benefit from being exposed to how ICT is deployed to solve problems in the real world. They are fit for the future after undergoing industry-oriented training," he said.

Huawei ICT Academy holds the ICT Competition to enable students to improve their practical capabilities and boost their competitiveness in the job market. The Academy provides free certification training to professors and students to cultivate local ICT talents and help accelerate the country's ICT industry development.

Huawei established the ICT Academy in the Philippines in 2019 with only 10 university partners. To date, Huawei ICT Academy has more than 50 university members in the Philippines. From 600 students certified in 2020, Huawei Philippines hopes to certify 5,000 within 5 years. Huawei's program also extends to trainers from different universities across the country.
