The 'Pinaka-Panalong' delicacies at Bella Vita Lipa, Batangas



Lomi is one of my comfort food that I could have anytime of the day,  the sight and aroma with thick egg noodles,  scrambled egg  pork small cubes, sliced kikiam and shredded vegetables is one lomi that I grew up with in the table. When I feel like a cold is coming, a steaming bowl of lomi is all I need to take the sickness away. When I learned that Batangas is home for lomi, I wonder what makes it different from the one we have here in Manila. I want the Batangas Lomi!

That was when I had a chance to visit Lipa's Bella Vita Land Corp last October 25 at Lipa City, Batangas. They featured  the best restaurants and stores of Lipa City, Batangas, in a fun and friendly cook-off called “Pinaka-panalong Lipa Delicacies” such as lomi, crispy pata, and suman.

The cook-off was held at BellaVita Compound in the city, the festive event was conceptualized to boost Lipa City’s tourism by highlighting its well-loved delicacies, Even as Batangas continues to lure fun seekers and trekkers to its beaches and mountains, respectively, BellaVita Land seeks to showcase Lipa City as a must-see destination for foodies and gourmands, as well.



“BellaVita believes in Lipa City’s huge potential as a tourist draw and we intend to support it in every way possible. We decided on holding this food-centric event because Filipinos are hearty eaters and Lipa’s delicacies are truly delicious—and are deemed as the best in the country,” said Barry Trinidad, BellaVita’s marketing manager.

While the cook-off was on-going, I checked out the units of the property development and had my selfies to their model houses. I inquired for each unit and asked for flyers,

The event affirmed the brand’s commitment to enrich the lives of hardworking Filipinos who dream to have a home they can call their own.

At the “Pinaka-panalong Lipa Delicacies” cook-off, which started at 8 in the morning and ended at 12 noon, all food preparations and the final presentation were done on site.

Attendees and guests had the chance to try all the entries for best lomi, suman, and crispy pata since each contestant provided food for free tasting.








Hailed as the pinaka-panalong lomi by the judges was the lomi of Hanzel Special Lomi House, which happens to be one of the oldest lomi houses in the city. Coming in close were Filian Goto and Lomi House and Benok’s Lomi House, which also served lomi that are to die for.

Meanwhile, it was Filian Goto House who bagged the grand prize for pinaka-panalong crispy pata, while Hanzel Special Lomi House and 3G’s Fat Crackles took home second and third place, respectively.

For pinaka-panalong suman, long-time suman-maker Nida Apenado proved that she already mastered her recipe after taking home the first prize in the category. Making it tough for Apenado were veteran Filipino delicacy vendors Aida Barcelos and the Filian Goto and Lomi House who bagged the second and third prize, respectively.

“The delicacies served today were the best. It was so hard judging because each of the entry has something different to offer. We chose some winners but everyone should be proud because Lipa’s delicacies, in general, are the best out there,” said Bulet Liwag, Sales Operations Officer (South).







The first-ever food competition organized by Amaia was judged by Amaia executives, officials, and some friends from the media, including Liwag, Burt Aurelio, Project Development Team Leader (South); Alain Sazon, Project Development Manager (South); Ruthlea Bijis and Lorna Silava of Lipa BellaVita In-House Sales; and bloggers Jeman Villanueva and Josephine Bonsol.

Fujifilm launches the "party camera" the new Instax Mini 70



The generation of today are the luckiest, they have all the access to the modern technology (gadgets) and almost everyone owns an Ipad, smartphones, tablets and Instax cameras.  Dont you now that the new Instax Mini 70 has a new selfie mode to to tote with? "Nothing Like You" from Bamboo's "Bless This Mess"





Bamboo was at his element when he performed "Firepower" and selected songs from his "Bless This Mess" sophomore album launch last October 26 at 12 Monkeys Music Hall at Century Mall Makati.  The song reminds me of the 80s with its bluesy appeal and beat, this along with my personal favorite "Nothing Like You".

Bamboo clad in white crisp shirt, denim pants, and trainer shoes sang and danced to the delight of his fans who were present during the album launch. He was effortlessly sexy.




PolyEast Records and one of the country’s most prominent names of OPM, Bamboo Mañalac announced the release of the sophomore album “Bless This Mess.”

Nearly four years after beginning a solo career with the brilliant  2011 “No Water, No Moon,” Bamboo ease into his second phase with the new album “Bless This Mess” released by PolyEast Records.

Taking subtle risks such as the bluesy but energy-boost kick-off single “Firepower”, Bamboo said the song was written at the time of his 2011 “No water, No Moon” but didn't think it matched the tone of the other songs in his first solo album.

He added, “So it was shelved and developed and was ready for this new album. I think listeners have to figure out for themselves what the songs means. I wanted folks to feel the music, the kick, then they'll get the lyric”.



Firepower” was officially heard on digital platforms like Spotify, iTunes, Deezr, Spinnr, Amazon, Guvera Music as well as local radios all over the country on October 15. PolyEast Records’ YouTube channel also premiered a prelude song “Nothing Like You” which connects to Firepower music video directed by Paolo Valenciano. “In the video, both songs are together because they are meant to be the same thing. If you see the video, you’ll get to interpret how both connect to each other,” Bamboo added.



The album was recorded in Grand Street Recording Studio in Brooklyn, New York and features ten brand new well-crafted compositions. “After the whole experience, I think it was the only place on the planet I could have recorded this album-- with all the elements needed and the different characters for each track. It’s the songs that dictate the direction of the album where all just fit. It wasn't easy but that's the fun part”.


In a five-month process during his TV stints as coach of The Voice, Bamboo produced and wrote most of the songs winding up a renewed energy pushing different styles as he said, “There's definitely a shake up-- from the quiet feeling of the last album, I wanted this one to be a punch in the face”.
As the album title “Bless This Mess” signifies more than it seems, he explained, “I'll let folks figure that out but it’s something I've whispered to myself before sessions or gigs in past years”.
“I could be wrong with how long the break was and that's the challenge of why it took so long. There was just so much swimming in my head and this album is part moving forward as well as just fitting another piece to the puzzle -- in regards to how my current sets will sound and look like”.

“AMERICAN ULTRA” MASHES UP COMEDY WITH VIOLENCE, ROMANCE



L.A. Weekly describes it as “A bloody valentine attached to a bomb. It's violent, brash, inventive and horrific, and perhaps the most romantic film of the year.”
Boston Globe calls its stars Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, “Tender, forgiving, and sexy, they're the hottest couple on screen at the moment.”


They're talking about Buena Vista International's new dark comedy “American Ultra,” the trippy story of Mike (Eisenberg), a convenience store clerk and his girlfriend, Phoebe (Stewart) whose sleepy, small-town existence is disrupted when his past comes back to haunt him in the form of a government operation set to wipe him out.

"The script is funny and scary and violent and sweet," producer Anthony Bregman says. "It makes you swing in so many directions emotionally, which makes for a great movie experience. [Screenwriter] Max Landis knows the action genre well, which allows him to make fun of it while living up to the conventions and expectations."
A large part of the humor comes from the fact that the filmmakers never lose sight of the idea that reclaiming his hardcore combat skills doesn't change who Mike is. "Mike is a bit of a dreamer and he never loses that quality," says producer David Alpert. "It's just that now people are trying to kill him. We always tried to maintain a connection to what it would really be like if the stoner guy in your town got these abilities."


Director Nima Nourizadeh, whose first film “Project X” has established him as an innovative new talent in Hollywood, impressed the producers with his ideas for maximizing both the action and the humor in the script. "Nima is a startling visionary in terms of how he sees a scene," says Landis. "He didn't change the script much, but the things he added made it even better. He structured the rhythms and beats in a way that is genuinely funny and fun to watch."


Nourizadeh brought a sharp sense of humor, as well as an authentic sense of danger and visual excitement to the script, according to Bregman. "He is better than anyone I can think of at establishing a really calm, stable atmosphere on screen that eventually explodes into a state of complete choreographed chaos. It's really fun to watch that build and ignite."

The writer and director first met in April 2013 to exchange ideas about future projects. Landis told Nourizadeh about “American Ultra,” a spec script no one outside of his team had read yet. "The script really exceeded my expectations," says the director. "Max is an intriguing storyteller. He feeds you information a little bit at a time until you are suddenly somewhere unexpected and completely crazy. His writing is always entertaining, but what separates this from other action comedies I'd read was that he nailed down the relationships between the main characters. It was the perfect second project for me."



Producers Bregman and Alpert agreed. "The combination of Max and Nima was irresistible," Bregman says. "Max's first feature script, `Chronicle,' is a favorite of mine. It was made on a modest budget with really interesting visuals that made it seem much bigger than it was. Nima's `Project X' was, in my opinion, one of the best movies of the last few years. It's another small film with a really big reach. Both were fun and entertaining and innovative, and at the same time dealt with big issues in a subtle way. It's exactly the sort of movie I want to see."

"Teaming Max and Nima up and then adding Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart to the mix feels like we're looking at the next generation of great Hollywood filmmakers," concludes Alpert.
American Ultra” will be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas nationwide starting Oct. 28.

Haier partners with ONE Championship for MMA Superstar Brandon Vera





Haier Asia Co., Ltd. and Haier Philippines, Inc. are proud to announce the brand’s exciting new partnership with ONE Championship (ONE), the largest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) organization in Asia. While the collaboration seems unlikely at first glance, with Haier being an electronic and appliances brand, and ONE a name in the world of sports, Haier Asia President and CEO Yoshiaki Ito explains how fitting the partnership is. “Haier and ONE Championship are actually similar in more ways than you think,” says Ito-san.

Aside from both companies taking pride in their Asian heritage, Haier and ONE also share the same vision, which is to bring their brands to the forefront of the global stage. With this as a target, both work at understanding their market and creating products and producing shows that cater to the needs of their consumers/audience. They are also constantly venturing into new markets, breaking through new ground, with ONE capitalizing on the rapid growth of MMA as a sport, and Haier making the most of the increasing demand of unique and high technology products by the modern-day consumers.





The partnership strongly reflects the company’s ideals and mindset. “Just like ONE Championship, we continuously aim to bring the best of what we do to the Asian people, in our case, through our home appliances,” says Ito-san. “Haier also shares the same spirit as ONE’s fighters. After the Press conference we got the chance to interview Haier Asia President and CEO Yoshiaki Ito about this unique new partnership:

How did this partnership come about?

Ito: First of all, I think it’s important to mention that I’ve always been a huge fan of MMA. It may come as a surprise to you, but I’m actually an MMA fighter myself. I’m not a professional fighter, but with this as a background, I believe it’s not very surprising anymore how the decision to partner with ONE Championship came to be.

Another thing that has brought this partnership to life is my friendship with the Chatri Sityodtong, the founder and chairman of ONE Championship, Asia’s largest sports media property. Our BROTHERHOOD shares the same vision: to bring our brands to the forefront of the global stage. We wanted to build something big for both of our brands in Asia and beyond.

Haier and ONE Championship both want to bring an exciting and unique MMA experience to the world, and this time, more particularly in Asia, and we believe there is no better time to team up than now.

Putting your long-time friendship with ONE Championship aside, what made you choose ONE Championship to partner with, over other names in the industry?

Looking at the successful and continuous growth of ONE Championship, we believe it is the kind of organization that we want to work with. We want work with best and ONE Championship is the best there is.

Haier and ONE Championship are actually similar in more ways than you think.

First  both brands are based in Asia, with a global audience. Second, ONE Championship focuses on local fighters and creates national, homegrown heroes. It is their key to success, because majority of sports fans want to see local heroes whom they can relate to. ONE has worked hard to build up Asian MMA heroes. This has had a trickle effect and has indirectly led to the growth of the sport in various Asian countries. In the same way, Haier offers innovative products that are localized; products that cater to the needs of each particular market we penetrate.

Haier and ONE Championship, in a sense, relate to consumers/audience by understanding their needs and innovating products/entertainment to cater to that.

And lastly both companies are constantly venturing into new markets, breaking through new ground, with ONE Championship capitalizing on the rapid growth of the sport of MMA, and Haier making the most of the increasing demand of unique and high-technology products by the modern-day consumers.

What is a champion to you/how do you define a champion?

As a company whose mission is to create and offer the most innovative products for our consumers’ home, we define a champion as someone who aims for continuous improvement, someone with unwavering commitment to excellence, and someone who constantly works at becoming an even better version of himself.

That is the mentality that we have at Haier. Just like ONE Championship, we continuously drives for CHAMPION-like improvements and bring the best of what we do to the Asian people, in our case, through our home appliances.

What are Haier’s plans following its re-launch early this year?

As Haier Asia’s CEO, I am driving the company to do things differently from the norm. We are investigating new ways of doing the white goods business and finding new markets, and introducing new products that the world has never seen before.

You can also expect brilliant partnerships with world-renowned brands. Our involvement with One Championship is actually our biggest event following our re-launch last July, and this is only the beginning. Haier is working out its consumer promotions and CSR programs ~ to give back to the community, and this will be initiated and presented in November 2015 and January 2016 by Haier Philippines .

It was a cold London afternoon in 1971 when two brothers, Bruno and Sergio Costa, decided to create something truly remarkable. Their love for premium coffee led them to sell their product to local caterers and soon after, to open their very first café.

The competition, which started on October 6 held its final leg on the 26th of the same month, where the winners from Costa Coffee Eastwood and Costa Coffee Robinsons Place Manila competed for the chance to represent the country next year in Singapore.
