HOPE collaborates with Solenn Heussaff in "Hope in a Shirt"

Each T-shirt I wear has a story behind it, some funny, a few sad, but always a memorable story of the time I wore it.

That’s why I choose the times I wear each shirt if only to reminisce the feeling and that special moment.

Last weekend was extra special, not only because I met Nanette Medved and Solenn Heussaff, but because I had the privilege of owning one of their very limited edition shirts that is part of their new advocacy called Hope in a Shirt.

There are three things that make each shirt special, the first is because it is designed by Solenn herself.. two is that the materials are made from 100% recycled bottles and the third is that every purchase of the shirt will help build public classrooms in the country.

HOPE founder and President, Nanette Medved-Po collaborates with Solenn Heussaff in creating exclusive designs for Hope in A Shirt collection.  Each shirt is made from 100% recycled bottles and is unbelievably soft custom printed shirts.

For every Hope in a shirt that you buy, you help build more public classroom for kids around the country. T shirts are available at the 1st HOPE Vendo Pop-up machine located at the G/F of Net Park in Fort Bonifacio. It is open from 11am to 5pm on May 28-30. After that, the shirts will be available exclusively through Zalora.

That there is a severe shortage of classrooms in the country is a sad reality that needs to be addressed. And the government simply cannot do it alone. It was towards this end that GenerationHOPE, a social enterprise aimed towards the building of public school classrooms, was formed by Founder and President, Nanette Medved-Po, who graduated with degrees in Finance and Entrepreneurship from Babson College in Boston.

From the initial success of Hope in a Bottle Purified Drinking Water — the full profits of which go towards the advocacy, wherein 37 classrooms have already been built — the team realized the growing interest among Filipinos in buying socially and environmentally responsible brands. Thus, as an offshoot, Hope in a Shirt was born. But these aren’t just any ordinary shirts: they are unbelievably soft custom printed shirts made from 100% recycled plastic bottles! These shirts became an instant hit among Nanette’s friends and soon word spread.

So taking this concept further, Nanette has turned to Solenn Heussaf with the idea of creating custom designs for an exclusive Hope in a Shirt collection. Now, with the help from the good guys at Globis, Inc., every one of Solenn’s brush and pencil strokes were transformed into high quality textile prints  – resulting in shirts that are unique, artsy, and stylish!

And for yet another first, the collection will be launched in a special Hope-branded vending machine — an idea inspired by New York fashion week. The result is a disruptive and desirable product that celebrates art, innovative sustainability, and a worthwhile cause. The Hope vendo will pop up in 3 surprise locations, for only 2 to 3 days each. Just 200 shirts will be produced and sold, so excited shoppers can keep tabs on Hope’s Facebook and Instagram pages to find out where they’ll pop up.

Many lucky fairgoers also brought home several prizes from exciting activities including an ice cream eating contest as well as raffle games from the sponsors.

Secret Talents Revealed

The Summer Fair proved once again that Filipinos are gifted singers as guests belted out songs from classics to today’s radio favorites on The X Factor Stage. Just like in an actual studio, each performance was recorded for the participants to remember this fun weekend.

Fairgoers were also treated to a share-worthy musical experience at the festival’s own version of the Carpool Karaoke, where fans of the social media hit got the chance to sing solo or with friends inside a car a la Adele, Justin Bieber, and One Direction with James Corden.

Lights, Camera, Action!

High-tech crime fighting got real at the Summer Fair as guests took on the Scorpion Laser Room challenge. With only two minutes to complete the mission, participants had to dodge crisscrossing laser beams fast enough to escape the room and win the day.

A Velcro wall further added a bunch of laughter to the event by letting fairgoers both young and old come up with the coolest—and funniest—poses to be captured on camera.

10-MINUTE HAIRCUT FROM KAIZEN HAIR SALON

In this fast-paced society where everyone seems to be on the run, 10 minutes can be crucial. They can mean some spare time to relax, take a breather, listen to music, nap, call people or catch up with friends. Some even get haircuts from Kaizen.

KAIZEN, a novel concept that originated in Japan and has since grown to other countries particularly in Indonesia, has five pillars that make it unique – it’s QUICK, CLEAN, STYLISH, AFFORDABLE and WATERLESS.

Its first branch in the Philippines is located at the 5th floor of SM Manila.

“We acknowledge and respect our customer’s time and since more and more of them need no-fuss, fast and efficient ways to look and feel good, we launched Kaizen,” Chinky Gabas, director of Kaizen Philippines. “The waterless process works perfectly with men, women, and children and is a fresh, clean, and quick approach for those who need no more than 10 minutes to improve their looks.”

The word Kaizen traces its roots to Japanese words “Kai” (which means “changes”) and “Zen” (meaning “continuous”). When put together, Kaizen translates to “continuous improvement”, which is exactly the way it is—unique, out of the box, revolutionary.

“Kaizen is all about having a speedy haircut with up-to-date styles. We sterilize our equipment in UV boxes, and we are the most hygienic because we use disposable neck paper in lieu of towels, and the customers take home the comb used for their haircut,” Gabas explained. Using a “zen wash technique”, Kaizen haircuts don’t need water but instead make use of an air-washer vacuum that ensures no stray hairs and a fresh-feeling finish. “Best of all, a haircut costs only 150 pesos, so it’s very affordable,” she added.

Visit Kaizen and the first thing you’ll notice is a slogan painted on its glass doors saying: “In here we smile, everybody smiles” and you will immediately feel at home. The contemporary black and white interiors (divided into modern haircutting semi-cubicles) and sleek barber chairs beckon. As you step inside, professional and skilled stylists will greet you with a smile. Most of them trained in Jakarta for the latest hair styles, trends and techniques. The core team, then, trained the rest of Kaizen team in the Philippines.

The stylists will give customers a “menu” of haircut styles, start prepping and give their desired cut in 10 minutes.

“If a customer wants a specific haircut that is not in our ‘menu,’ like something more complicated to do, the service might take more than 10 minutes. But it will still be a quick, no-fuss, and satisfying experience that costs half the price of any average haircut but still delivers quality results.”

Also called the ‘salon of the future,’ Kaizen caters to customers of all ages, gender, income groups, and lifestyles. Its customers include elderly couples, families, kids, toddlers, teenagers, students, young professionals and millennials (who love to videotape how Kaizen cleans their head, neck, and nape with an air-washer; then post this experience on their social media accounts).

“The hair is our crowning glory and having a bad hair day somehow affects our mood. Kaizen is here, offering a snappy solution that will resolve your hair concerns with a reasonably priced haircut without taking too much of your precious time,” Gabas concluded.First established in 2004 at Plaza Setiabudi One, South Jakarta, Kaizen has expanded across Indonesia with 75 branches & growing in Jakarta, Tangerang, Bekasi, Cirebon, Cibubur, Karawang, Bandung, Bali, Batam, and Surabaya. In the Philippines, Kaizen is poised to expand and open more branches in other malls, airports, corporate centers, condominiums and other prime stand-alone locations.

It is brought to the Philippines by Techno Holdings Corporation, a well-respected group of companies involved in the distribution of some of the world’s best-known commercial kitchen and laundry equipment; irrigation systems, precision mowing equipment, golf carts and other utility vehicles; gym and fitness equipment and premium lighting systems. The company has also recently opened businesses involved in health and wellness such as Karada Japanese Body Therapy Center and Oracle Korean Beauty and Aesthetic Clinic.

There are things to consider when buying an airconditioning unit. Number one is where the indoor and the outdoor units will be placed. Check if its Energy-Efficiency. The higher the rating, the more efficient the unit. That way, you would save on your electricity bills. Consider your budget. Dont be tempted to buy the least expensive unit available, remember that pricier units tend to have higher efficiencies, which make them less expensive to operate. The Noise.
