Decorative pieces. A room’s design can be elevated with at least one statement piece. She shared that lithographs from the Cuarto auction, such as "The Old Man and the Sea" by Salvador Dali [Lot 061] and an untitled piece by Fernando Zóbel [Lot 059], are picture-perfect Holiday gifts and enthralling additions to any home. When hung against a printed or black and white wallpaper, these lithographs will complement your area for your next in-person or online celebration.

Elegant tableware. With the Holidays fast approaching, even intimate family gatherings can be unforgettable with an awe-inspiring tablescape. One of Fores’ favorites is the 20th century Czechoslovakian porcelain dinnerware [Lot 017]. With its black, white, and gray color palette, Fores says this set will match your existing tableware well. To further elevate your dining experience, she also recommends the silver-plated tureen, uniquely 

placed on a Spanish silver mirrored base [Lot 008], and the large octagonal Spanish silver centerpiece bowl [Lot 165].

Striking furniture. The right furniture can also be works of art and the Cuarto auction offers many of these for the home. Fores points out that the Napoleon III style radiogram with 1950s radio and "Philips" mono record player [Lot 108] would look gorgeous in anyone’s living space. She recommends giving it to a male loved one who enjoys collecting vinyl records. She adds that she would pair the table with the Napoleon III mirror [Lot 052].

#1 Protect your online shopping accounts    Most of us create multiple accounts when accessing e-commerce platforms to purchase items, and these accounts often contain sensitive information, like your contact details and credit card information.    Make sure you choose a strong, unique password that’s at least eight characters long, and use a different password for every account, so that if one account is hacked, your other accounts aren't compromised.    And should you ever get logged out of your account and need to quickly regain access, adding recovery information like a phone number or email address will definitely be helpful!
#2 Download secure apps   The festive season brings brisk business for e-commerce sites who might prompt you to download their dedicated shopping app for a better shopping experience. Just be aware of any fake shopping apps that set out to steal your personal information.   To prevent that, make sure you’re downloading apps from trusted sources like the Google Play Store which scans all apps for malware before and after you install them.
#3  Beware of phishing when surfing online   Phishing cases are on the rise and spotting them can be a challenge, even for savvy web users. It is important to learn how to spot suspicious emails and websites, preventing yourself from revealing critical personal information such as your  password.   To avoid being a victim of phishing attacks:  ●      Never click on questionable links ●      Always double-check the URL to make sure the browser shows a lock symbol to ensure that you’re entering your data into a legitimate website  ●      Before submitting any information, make sure that the site’s URL begins with 'https' (versus “http”), meaning it’s secure    Use web browsers which have security steps in place to keep users away from phishing sites. For example, if you visit a site with malware or attempts to phish you, you’ll be warned by Chrome and taken back to safety. JC Stewart’s collab with 220 Kid, ‘Too Many Nights’, has kept the young artist’s profile riding high as he looks set to become one of 2021’s biggest breakthrough artists. Now JC shares his eagerly anticipated debut EP ‘When The Light Hits The Room’, which is out now via Warner Records. It opens with the new single ‘Rest Of My Life’. JC wrote the EP with the BRIT and Ivor Novello Award winner Tom Odell.

 

The duo’s creative connection resulted in four thematically linked songs, which set emotive stories of the growing pains of young adulthood to songs that balance immediately addictive pop hooks with heartfelt reflection. JC then recorded the EP with the Grammy-nominated producer Two Inch Punch (Rex Orange County, Sam Smith, Rag N Bone Man).

  

“I wrote ‘When The Light Hits The Room’ about growing up and searching for the end goal that would make everything make sense,” says JC Stewart. “I realised that the finishing point might not even exist, but came to accept that it’s ok. I wrote a lot of this EP in the back room of my parents’ house over lockdown and then was lucky enough to work with one of my heroes, Tom Odell, to bring it all together. I’m unbelievably proud to call my first ever small body of work.”

 

The EP’s lead track ‘Rest Of My Life’ perfectly captures that concept. Driven by JC’s candid admission “I just want to find someone that I can spend the rest of my life with,” the song’s compellingly unguarded subject matter is magnified by the production. JC’s spine-tingling voice is enriched with subtle creative twists to elevate his harmonies and backing vocals. Meanwhile, buoyant and pulsating percussion provides a modern pop feel that enlivens his lovelorn lyricism.

 

The remaining tracks reiterate the strength of the duo’s collaboration. ‘Valium’ is a hymnal declaration of a fractured relationship that builds into a climactic crescendo, before the plaintive piano of ‘Friday Night’ craves the brief respite from day-to-day life that the weekend brings. It ends, however, on a high. ‘Hard To Believe’ suggests that the hopes he expressed in ‘Rest Of My Life’ are coming true, with a tender celebration of how “a girl like you should never love a man like me.”

 

JC Stewart launched the EP last night with a special acoustic livestream show, hosted at The Luney in his hometown of Magherafelt in Northern Ireland. After debuting new songs alongside some fan favourites, JC followed his set by inviting questions for a Q&A session.

Holcim patners with Human Nature for sustainable management of plastic wastes

Holcim Philippines and social enterprise Human Nature have teamed up to lessen plastics going to landfills with the former using used shampoo bottles and other plastic packaging as alternative fuels in making cement.

Leading building solutions provider Holcim Philippines, Inc. and natural personal care and home care social enterprise brand Human Nature have agreed to partner in sustainable waste management with the former using the latter’s used plastic packaging as alternative fuel in cement manufacturing.

Under the partnership, customers may turn over their dry, empty, and clean Human Nature bottles to the company’s select Metro Manila stores* under its “Balik Bote” initiative. The used bottles will then be delivered to Holcim’s plant in Norzagaray, Bulacan, where the materials will be shredded by Geocycle, the company’s partner waste management unit. Afterwards, the pre-processed materials will be used as alternative fuels and raw materials for cement manufacturing using co-processing technology.

Geocycle Vice President Frederic Vallat: “We are proud to be a partner of Human Nature, a company that is serious in its commitment to have a positive social impact and be respectful of nature. Human Nature’s “Balik Bote” initiative is part of the company’s thrust to help lessen wastes ending up in landfills. Aside from this, they also follow pro-environment practices such as ensuring that raw materials are naturally derived, processed with less energy and waste, and contain no harmful chemicals toxic to humans and the environment. Human Nature is also one of the pioneers of safe, sustainable, and accessible refilling stations for home care products that significantly reduce plastic waste. Other landmark efforts include transitioning to earth-friendlier paper packaging and shifting to plastic bottle-free products in waterless formulation such as natural shampoo bars which they launched late 2019.

Meanwhile, the use of alternative fuels and raw materials using co-processing technology is a key driver of improving Holcim Philippines’ sustainability performance. 

Co-processing allows the company to produce cement with lower carbon footprint, reduce its consumption of non-renewable resources and provide partners a sustainable alternative for managing their wastes. In co-processing, qualified waste materials are pre-processed as alternative fuel and fed into the high-temperature kilns along with other traditional fuels to produce cement. This process transforms wastes to alternative fuel and converts these into energy for cement production. The technology is recognized globally and is approved by the Philippine authorities due to its proven advantages in environmental and safety performance.

In 2019, Holcim Philippines pre-processed as alternative fuel the segregated wastes of several local governments near its plants in Luzon and Mindanao and expressed readiness to help more communities on this matter. The company has also co-processed tens of thousand tons of non-recyclable plastics as it continues to provide waste management services to partners in various industries.
