Mental health impacts among health workers during COVID-19 but help is available

Although COVID-19 cases are dropping in the country and advances in technology are making regular patient consultations possible, many local healthcare professionals still find working under pandemic conditions overwhelming.

Teleconsultations that last until late evening and being away from loved ones for extended periods are just some of the issues that continue to drain them to this point.

The webinar  has provided healthcare professionals a way to identify and manage symptoms of burnout and achieve that balance of taking care of their patients and their well-being.

"Going through stressful life experiences can be unhealthy because this could lead to mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression, which we have commonly seen since the pandemic started," webinar speaker Dr. Robert Buenaventura said.

"If you show symptoms of burnout, it's a good idea to see a mental health professional. You have to realize that help is available."

Dr. Buenaventura is the head of the Department of Neurosciences at Manila Theological College and associate professor in human life span and psychiatry at La Consolacion University Philippines.

Kumusta Dok is an initiative that aims to empower patients to reconnect with their doctors during the new normal. The Kumusta Dok initiative also gives tips and updates on the channels available for patients to strengthen partnerships with doctors throughout the health-seeking journey. It shares efforts being made by healthcare facilities to ensure safety of patients and healthcare staff while delivering appropriate care. It likewise partners with medical societies to create educational and wellness platforms for healthcare professionals as we live through this pandemic.

Based on a study conducted during the height of the pandemic, out of 516 healthcare workers^[1]in the Philippines, 70.7% have anxiety symptoms. The study revealed that the pandemic had a psychological impact on the majority of healthcare workers.

According to Dr. Buenaventura, red flags to watch out for indicating too much stress or a mental health condition include a change in moods, memory, and behavior, as well as lower productivity and frequent absenteeism. Those who suffer mental burnout also have a tendency to withdraw from social connections and ignore personal self-care and hygiene.

To manage these symptoms and get a proper diagnosis or treatment plan, Dr. Buenaventura suggests seeking the help of a mental health professional who can be reached via teleconsultation or in-person visits. Another way to contact a mental health professional or a trained counselor is via anonymous, 24/7 hotlines.

"Consultations don't necessarily have to be about a mental disorder,” Dr. Buenaventura added. "It can just be about the stress that can be managed by other means. But you need to identify and accept that the problem exists because that is the first step to doing something about it."

Those who are not receptive to meeting a mental health professional can instead engage in doing stress management techniques to cope with burnout symptoms. Their options include exercise, adopting a healthy diet, or getting enough sleep.

They can also try other therapeutic maneuvers such as meditation or mindfulness, correcting negative thoughts, or progressive muscle relaxation.

Self-care is very crucial because it's an integral part of professional fulfillment," Dr. Buenaventura said.

Vice President Leni Robredo gained praises from celebrities and netizens for her impressive and strong showing during the CNN presidential debate on Sunday held at the Quadricentennial Pavilion of the University of Sto. Tomas. 

 

On Twitter, celebrities and netizens alike agreed that Robredo was the most prepared among the other presidential bets who attended the debate. 

 

“Great job at the Presidential Debate, Ma’am Leni! That’s MY PRESIDENT!!!” Megastar Sharon Cuneta, wife of Robredo’s running mate Senator Kiko Pangilinan, said in a Facebook post.

Actresses Agot Isidro and Nikki Valdez, for their part, backed up Robredo’s claim by posting receipts of the Vice President’s programs during the pandemic.

When it comes to corruption, Robredo mentioned that the Office of the Vice President has obtained the highest rating from the Commission on Audit (COA) for past three straight years.

The Vice President also committed to be a hands-on president, especially during times of crisis, as it shows leadership.  

 

"Ako bilang presidente, in every crisis, ako mismo ang mangunguna. Nakita natin during the pandemic na kailangan natin ng isang pangulo na nagli-lead sa front," she said. 

 

"Yung number 1 ingredient ng leadership aside from character is you show up in the most difficult times. Kapag hindi ka nagshow up in the most difficult times, hindi ka leader," she added.

As for infrastructure, Robredo said she will focus on infrastructure development in the countryside to boost rural development and pour money in programs that will benefit commuters and bikers. 

 

"Pag tiningnan kasi natin ‘yung datos, kakaunting percentage lang ng tao ang may sasakyan. Karamihan walang sasakyan at nakikibaka sa mass transportation," said Robredo.

TECNO announce new technology RGBW camera sensor + glass which is co-developed with Samsung on its CAMON 19 series

During the latest edition of the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2022), one of the major events in the mobile technology world, TECNO Mobile, global premium smartphone manufacturer announced that the Samsung RGBW color filter sensor technology will  be available on its upcoming new CAMON series, which are well-known as the camera phone. This new technology is co-developed it with SAMSUNG, involving the addition of a white sub-pixel to the existing universal RGB configurations on phones,  and is sold as part of the ISOCELL RGBW color filter sensor solutions.

RGBW (red, green, blue, white) technology is heralded as the next major change to existing mobile camera frameworks, allowing the new generation of phones to further match up to professional cameras, particularly in the light sensitivity areas and low-light environments. The new RGBW sensor will be attached to a 64MP camera, and to increase the light input of the CMOS sensor, effectively brightening picture quality and creating ultra-clear details without impacting contrast in dark and backlit backgrounds. Coupled with TECNO’s complementary Glass + Plastic (G+P) technology, light intake can be further enhanced by another 30%, effectively doubling the overall picture quality for users. 

Compared with the traditional RGGB sensor, the RGBW light capture sensor adopts a new pixel arrangement, and introduces (W) white pixels that are more sensitive to light on the basis of not damaging the original three primary colors, with 1.7 times better sensitivity than green color filter, which can not only ensure that the color is not distorted, but also improve the brightness of the camera.
