World Vision’s 2021 in review: More than 300,000 Filipino children directly assisted


Christian relief, development, and advocacy agency World Vision in the Philippines recently released its Year 2021 impact report highlighting milestones of directly assisting thousands of  children and reaching millions of children through its various child-focused and community-based programs and advocacies implemented in over 30 provinces across the country.

 

World Vision National Director Rommel V. Fuerte shared, “In seeking and bearing witness to God’s kingdom, the ministry that we have built with all of our partners directly served more than 300,000 children by end of our fiscal year 2021. This is while the five national policies on child well-being World Vision has influenced to benefit  more than 32 million children in the Philippines.”

 

“God has been faithful to each and every one of us for enabling us to do so much, despite the limitations and challenges in year 2021,” said Eduardo C. Jimenez , last year’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees for World Vision Development Foundation, Inc. “We praise Him for giving us the opportunity to work alongside thousands of partners and volunteers across the country to make this happen.”

 

Jimenez added that in alignment with the Philippine Development Plan and with the gracious support of donors, World Vision’s Health and Nutrition Program helped nourish 209,182 children aged below 17 years old, while its Education Program helped over 116,926 children, aged 5 to 17 years old, improve their learning outcomes.


In 2021, World Vision also relaunched its brand new child sponsorship campaign Chosen, which aims to empower children to decide on their own and choose their child sponsors. One of the early takers for this campaign is supportive celebrity ambassador Nikki Gil. “The fact that I got to where I am today is a series of moments of being chosen first and foremost by God,” shares Gil on her experience with Chosen initiative. “There are times in our lives where we have limited choices. For children to be given the chance to choose who will journey with them to a brighter future --- that’s such a big deal. Through Chosen™, you’re giving children the power to choose. How empowering is that!”

 

However rough and challenging it has been due to the pandemic two years on, thousands of children in the Visayas including Sogod, Tabogon, Compostela, Liloan, and northern Cebu received learning and activity packs which include a small radio, COVID-19 reading materials, a storybook, and a set of play cards and school supplies to complement the government’s efforts to promote education despite the massive lockdowns implemented last year. 

 

“It is our prayer that like Jeremiah who started young as a prophet, we too continue to heed God’s calling for us to be bearers of good news and doers of good deeds in this world,” added Fuerte.

AXA Philippines rose to second place in total premium income (TPI) with P38.9 billion in 2021

The Hotel Sales and Marketing Association announces the launch of the 8th Virtus Awards on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the newly opened Kingsford Hotel Manila. Gaetos will deliver the keynote speech during the launch and the General Membership Meeting.

Cartoon Network and Ayala Malls bring kids a fun summer full of adventure with the launch of the Redraw Your Summer program. Built on four pillars - “Craft Your World”, “Move Your World”, “Create Your World”, and “Imagine Your World” - malls become “worlds” where kids can explore creativity through arts, theater, and dance. 

 

From May 1 to June 30, the program starts with a meet and greet with iconic Cartoon Network characters. Kids can also participate in designing community art murals featuring specially made Tweety 80th anniversary artwork at select Ayala Malls.

foodpanda has partnered with the Blas F. Ople Policy Center and Training Institute for the expansion of the BuyAnihan Palengke

Leading quick commerce platform provider foodpanda has partnered with the Blas F. Ople Policy Center and Training Institute for the expansion of the BuyAnihan Palengke CSR initiative aimed at helping enterprising Filipinos become resellers of fresh produce sourced directly from local farmers. 

Dubbed as a Fruits and Veggies Street Fest, the outdoor food bazaar exhibit featured fresh vegetables & fruits and food & refreshments sold by the program’s beneficiaries.

“This project started as a local program “Salubong ng Carrots Atbp.” of the Caloocan City Government through its Caloocan Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CADAO) with the Diocese of Caloocan City to provide a sustainable livelihood to several of the city’s reformed drug dependents and displaced workers become vegetable resellers. It inspired us from the private sector partners  - the Philippine Seven Corporation and foodpanda Philippines to participate and scale the program to reach other cities and people. It was the embodiment of the Filipino Bayanihan Spirit that this country is known for.” said Daniel Marogy, Managing Director of foodpanda Philippines.

Marogy explained that the special one-day food bazaar at Emerald Avenue in Ortigas marked a new phase of the project. 

“And so we soft launch today the BuyAnihan Palengke Group Buy App that will help the program reach a wider market and make affordable fresh produce even more accessible to consumers. As we move forward with this project, BuyAnihan Palengke will be known not just as a CSR initiative but as a revolutionary social enterprise powered by a technology platform.” declared Marogy.

On top of the event’s food offerings, a tent was dedicated for the recruitment of potential new resellers of the project where interested visitors of the event may sign-up and be shown how the app works.

Expanding the project’s beneficiaries

Staying true to its objective of providing the underserved sector with a source of income, BuyAnihan Palengke’s resellers now include repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), local farmers, out-of-school youths, and solo parents, among others.  It is also opening its doors to interested resellers as well as foodpanda’s own partner delivery riders. 

The outdoor food bazaar was the first collaboration between foodpanda and Ople Center, a labor non-profit organization (NGO) and a known advocate of initiatives that aid struggling Filipinos looking for livelihood. 

Unemployment and the lack of alternative sources of livelihood are two of the most serious economic dilemmas we are facing today. This project is a timely solution to this problem as we are able to onboard multiple sectors in just one program and provide them with a viable income stream,” tells Susan Ople, President of Blas F. Ople Center. 

The CSR project includes training both OFWs and riders with basic skills and information necessary to prepare them for their new journey as resellers. 

With the expansion of the BuyAnihan Palengke livelihood program, we strive to innovate and look for more ways to help our stakeholders. We are happy and excited to see even more Filipinos get these livelihood opportunities,” says Leopoldo De Castro Jr, foodpanda Philippines finance director. 

As foodpanda gives its full support to the launch event, its cute and adorable mascot, Pau-Pau also made his first public appearance as one of the event’s main attractions, visiting the bazaar’s various tents of food and vegetable offerings and greeting the bazaar visitors.

The BuyAnihan Palengke CSR Project  aims to launch more projects and partnerships in the future directed at creating more livelihood opportunities for their beneficiaries, better prices to the farmers for the sale of their produce, and fresh quality products for consumers.
