TATUM, KUNIS PLAY STAR-CROSSED LOVERS IN “JUPITER ASCENDING”

Channing Tatum (“22 Jump Street”) and Mila Kunis (“Oz, the Great and Powerful”) star in Warner Bros. Pictures’ original science fiction action adventure, “Jupiter Ascending.”

Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

“It’s so smart and amazing and so much fun,” says Mila Kunis. “There’s a lot of action, and a beautiful love story, and even though it takes places in the most fantastical settings, everything feels so tangible and real. Also, there’s a fair amount of sharp humor, which I love.”

“Lana and Andy Wachowski create from a molecular level to the expanse of the universe,” says Channing Tatum, who plays Caine. Caine doesn’t know the reason for his mission, which is immediately complicated by a gang of bounty hunters determined to capture Jupiter themselves, at any cost. “He is trying to figure out why all of this is happening, and has to make a decision whether to protect her or give her up,” Tatum says.

Almost fully human but for a splice of wolf DNA that both enhances his skills and limits his prospects for a normal life, Caine becomes Jupiter’s protector as he comes to understand who she really is and what’s at stake if the people who want her neutralized are successful.
Recounting the moment when Caine and Jupiter meet, Kunis says, “Jupiter is in a very precarious situation and when Caine drops out of the sky and takes her up in his arms it’s very much a chemical attraction between the two of them, regardless of everything else that’s going on. It’s natural and instantaneous.”

The trust and connection that develops between Caine and Jupiter and deepens throughout the ensuing action could be described as a simple love story on a large scale. These are two individuals who never expected to find love at all, and certainly not under these extreme circumstances. Says Tatum, “Caine probably just wrote himself off long ago as never being able to find love or even being deserving of it, even though it’s all he’s ever wanted. And Jupiter feels that she’s made every possible bad decision in the book when it comes to men so maybe it’s not worth trying again.”

Like many true heroines, Jupiter’s courage is forged from harsh and humble beginnings. Her father, an astrophysicist, was killed in Saint Petersburg in a senseless crime before her birth, and Jupiter entered the world at sea, between nations, as her mother and sister fled to America for a better life. But that life was far from fairytale. Cleaning houses by day and sharing cramped quarters with her extended family at night, Jupiter’s reality is back-breaking and numbingly monotonous.
But beneath her casual cynicism Jupiter has a tender heart and, like her father, a genuine curiosity about the universe and her place in it. She secretly wishes—though never really expects—that she could see the world as he did, as a place of beauty, wonder and possibility.

Unlucky, too, in love, Jupiter’s romantic history is marred by heartbreak and disappointment. So much so that she believes she has a broken compass, causing her to make one bad choice after another. But is her compass broken or it just leading her to Caine? In Caine, she finds someone she is forced to trust and, in return, he is forced to trust her, a situation that does not come easily to either of them, and when she falls in love with him it’s the biggest leap of faith she has ever made.

The experience is similar for him. In Caine’s society, human genes are routinely engineered and often combined with genes from the animal kingdom for their advantageous traits and abilities: heightened senses such as sight, scent or hearing, and agility or strength. Caine, with his infusion of wolf DNA, was bred to be a Legionnaire or “skyjacker,” a fearless soldier with incomparable hunting, tracking and fighting skills. Unfortunately, the person who designed Caine miscalculated, adding to these attributes a streak of rebellion and unpredictability. This eventually manifested into such an intense hatred and distrust toward anyone of royal blood that it takes every ounce of control for Caine not to immediately go for their throats. Consequently, he has learned to keep to himself.

When Caine is dispatched to find and deliver Jupiter before she is swept up by one of his scheming siblings, the former Legionnaire doesn’t know who she is or why she merits such attention. Later, when he learns the truth, he is perplexed. Jupiter is a royal, yet she doesn’t arouse in him the aversion he harbors toward her class; instead, she brings out the protective side of his lupine nature, the instinct toward loyalty and connection.

“Caine has an issue with royals, and he’s been told all his life that it’s his genetic disposition,” Tatum acknowledges. “But then Jupiter is an anomaly. He’s simultaneously drawn to her and thrown by her because he can’t understand why he feels this way. I think Caine senses an innate goodness in her, and it’s a quality he hasn’t had much experience with so Jupiter is a bit of an interesting enigma.”

Set for release across the Philippines on Feb. 05 in IMAX 3D and 2D cinemas, “Jupiter Ascending” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Unilever launches Surf Labahan Station in Mayorga, Leyte

Surf Philippines has turned-over a sustainable and environment-friendly laundry facility in Barangay Union Coastal, Mayorga, Leyte that recycles water for reuse in washing clothes.

The number one laundry brand in the Philippines created the Surf Labahan Station, featuring a water filtration system that can clean and recycle up to 6000 liters of laundry water every day. The facility’s flooring is composed of pavers made from recycled Surf sachets, and the area can accommodate up to 20 people.

“This Surf Labahan Station is our way of contributing to water sustainability and conservation, especially in an area that is still suffering from the effects of typhoon Yolanda,” said Lavin Gonzaga, Unilever’s Sustainable Business and Communications Assistant Manager. “In line with Unilever’s Sustainable Living Program that aims to bring a brighter future to one billion people worldwide, we want to provide a sustainable source of clean water through this facility.”

Gonzaga said that like in most rural areas nationwide, residents in the Mayorga community still get water from deep-well pumps for their household needs, including laundry. “While deep-well pumps provide water to address the community’s short term needs, these sources are not sustainable and are not environment-friendly. Water is oftentimes dirty and contains oil, so it’s not ideal for washing clothes.”

For her part, Surf Assistant Brand Manager, Cha Francisco, said the Surf Labahan Station’s water recycling facility makes it an ideal learning tool on sustainable water management that can benefit both the community and the environment. “Through our partnership with non-government organization Operation Compassion, volunteers will teach the community about the importance of water conservation, how water filtration works and how to properly use the Surf Labahan Station.”

Volunteers from Operation Compassion will stay in the community and help in the sustainability and maintenance of the Surf Labahan Station. They will also help in rehabilitating the community and teaching residents how to plant vegetables and fruits as a form of livelihood and a way to maximize the water recycling system.

Almost everyone is into healthy eating, juicing and using skincare skipping on the toxins that is paraben.  Surprisingly,  our very own extra virgin coconut oil surfaced on the international beauty scene, even Hollywood celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Rihanna, Cate Blanchet swear by its benefit.  and Madonna even admitted that it is the secret to her everlasting glow and vitality.

That is why Ms. Rica King, CEO and President of Cocoline Naturals came up with the wonder "it" fruit virgin coconut oil, incorporating its 300+ benefits to the skin. Cocoline Naturals was recently launched last January 29 at Greensun, Makati. The event was hosted by Divine Lee together with Fabio Ide and JM Rodriguez. The Cocoline Naturals targeted dry skin and triple whitening.

“There is a growing need for healthy alternative beauty products,” says COCOLINE president Rica King. “We are giving the power of coconut a supplemental twist through a product line aimed to delight its users with its look, smell, and feel, while addressing the modern woman’s health and beauty needs,” she adds.

For its maiden launch, COCOLINE Naturals covers two main beauty needs through its two variants: Intensive Moisturizer and Triple Whitening.  Both lines are available in lotion, body wash, and beauty bar soap.

Cocoline Natural President, Rica King

COCOLINE Naturals Intensive Moisturizer provides anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal properties of virgin coconut oil with the addition of licorice extracts that are known to have good anti-inflammatory and skin calming properties while helping even-out skin tone. It also has milk to provide additional nourishing to the skin without that oily feeling.

COCOLINE also promotes an important advocacy that rallies support for our local coconut industry.  “The Philippines is known to be one of the biggest suppliers of coconut products to the world, and we are home to the best quality of coconut oil in the market. Our local coconut should be a source of pride and should be given the right support and attention,” asserts King.

Meeting the Promil gifted children of the 90s today

Meeting the Promil gifted children of the 90s Kiko Galura, James Flores and Shaira Luna made me nostalgic. I remember Shaira Luna from her Promil TV Commercial talking about cardiovascular at such a young age. I was amazed at how these kids grew up fast and established at their chosen career as well.  Every parents want their kids to be like them or at least be as successful and contented at what these three young professional are doing today.

Promil nurtured giftedness by letting the media meet the 3 genius kids of the 90s in person  last January 28 at Makati Shangri-la Isabela Ballroom with guests Joey Ayala and the Promil gifted children of this generation.

The Promil kids of the early 90s were all grown up now and second, their accomplishments as adults are just as impressive as what they were able to deliver as kids.

The young poet, Kiko Galura, has an established career as a publisher in one of the country’s biggest publishing houses. From making words come to life in his poems, he now provides an opportunity and a voice to other storytellers.

James Flores, who was known for his proficiency in astronomy stayed within the sciences, albeit in a different field, taking his masters in clinical psychology. From his love of the stars and their radiance, he helps bring out the brilliance in every child through outreach programs in music for children.

And finally, Shaira Luna, who was poised to enter into the medical world, grew up to become one of the most talented photographers of her generation. From her mastery of the human anatomy, she now captures the best in human form with her photography, building a successful career around her passion.

“A gifted child can be expected to learn faster than other children, have more varied interests, have greater depth of feeling and generally be more than other children,” explains Dra. Leticia Peñano-Ho, President of the Philippine Center for Gifted Education

To celebrate the current success of the gifted alumni, Promil Pre-School brought back together the famous trio, almost 20 years after their commercial first aired on national television. The brand’s heritage on giftedness is further exemplified through their achievements and their journey towards becoming valuable gifts to society.

“Throughout the years, Promil Pre-School has been encouraging parents to keep nurturing the gifts of their children. As we usher in a new year, we encourage others to become advocates of giftedness as well,” says Dian Yu, Product Manager of Promil Pre-School.

In 2015, Promil Pre-School is launching their Gifted Movement campaign, which is a movement to supporting and celebrating giftedness in the country. The brand aims to spark interest and gain the commitment of moms and consumers to take an active role in advocating giftedness and nurturing it.

KidZania, Manila's first education oriented theme park

KidZania RightZkeepers Bache, Urbano, Beebop, Vita and Chika

It excites me to no end when I learned that a play city KidZania will be coming our way this 2015 in Manila. Our children would surely want to experience how to role play as an adult, from doctors, nurses to firefighters to dentists. They will also learn the art of using and saving money. This would prepare them for their future, for a better world.

KidZania Manila introduced and paid tribute to its Industry Partners during a presentation held at the Hotel Intercontinental Manila last January 29 at Hotel Intercontinental Manila. The tribute was hosted by Ms. Maricel Laxa Pangilinan.  Over 100 officials representing the different Industry Partners, along with members of the media and other guests, were in attendance, as they celebrated the wonderful play experience in store for Filipino kids.

Henk Hermans, Project Director KidZania Manila.

With more than 100 role playing activities, KidZania Manila empowers children to explore, discover, and choose whatever roles they want. Here, children get to experience how a community works, earn and manage their money, as well as cooperate and work with others. Each experience is completely hands-on and helps develop teamwork, independence, self-esteem, and valuable life skills – equipping kids to create a better world in the future.

Immersive, interactive role play rooted in real-life activities and establishments is at the core of the KidZania experience. And that is where Industry Partners support the experience:  with their expertise in their respective industries, Industry Partners help bring realism to the kid-sized city, providing children with truly engaging activities and skills that they can use in real life.

“We want kids to imagine, to play and have fun, enjoying the amazing role play experiences at KidZania Manila. They will learn, as they play, about the varied, interesting roles and establishments that collaborate and serve to create a good community.  Our Industry Partners contribute significantly to make the KidZania Manila experience as authentic and meaningful as possible for the children who will visit our play city,” said Maricel Pangilinan-Arenas, State Governor for KidZania Philippines. “With their years of knowledge and expertise, they help enrich the educational entertainment value of the KidZania concept.”

KidZania Manila President and CEO Maricel Pangilinan Arenas

As KidZania Industry Partners, companies will have a real opportunity to become indispensable parts of the story as KidZania Manila incorporates each real-world brand into various establishments. As a result, the experience sparks the imagination, ignites their minds, nurtures creativity and inspires real-world exploration.

“What makes the KidZania experience unique is immersive, authentic role play, so it is important to incorporate realistic places and recognizable brands that make up a city,” said Cecille L. Mariño, KidZania Manila Industry Partners Director.

KidZania Manila is opening this 2015 at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. Visit manila.kidzania.com for more information and updates.

Starmobile launches the Starmobile Sync 2.0 app

Rapid smartphone adoption creates need for seamless ‘data migration’

A 2014 study by UK-based research firm On Device Research reveals that half of Filipino mobile phone users will own a smartphone by the end of 2015.

Apart from the demand for high-speed mobile services, this unprecedented rise in usage has also created the need for a fast and easy way to ‘migrate’ data from basic phones to smartphones.

Keeping this in mind, Philippine smartphone and tablet manufacturer Starmobile has introduced Starmobile Sync 2.0, an intelligent mobile app that enables end-users to transfer phone data quickly and hassle-free.

“Filipinos have become aware of the benefits of owning a Starmobile smartphone,” said Starmobile Product Development Head Michael Chen. “But one thing that discourages them from making the jump is that their contacts, text messages, photos, music, and videos are ‘trapped’ in another device—Starmobile Sync addresses all of that,” he said.

Building on the success of the original Starmobile Sync, Starmobile Sync 2.0 now includes Wi-Fi functionality.

“Before, the app could only transfer data via Bluetooth. With Wi-Fi functionality it has become faster, more seamless, and more universal,” Chen said.

A Starmobile KNIGHT X user for example simply has to power up Starmobile Sync 2.0 on the source and target devices and make sure both are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

From there on, it’s as simple as following the on-screen instructions. Depending on the network’s capabilities, Starmobile Sync 2.0 can transfer over 1,000 contacts in less than a minute.

Users of non-Wi-Fi enabled devices, meanwhile, can opt to use the Bluetooth transfer option.

Starmobile Sync 2.0 is available in all new Starmobile Android devices, beginning with the recently announced Starmobile KNIGHT X and Starmobile UP Snap.

Lets commit this February on "Comet"

I have always anticipating for an Emmy Rossum film, it is seldom that I see her face on the big screen, the latest was at the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards as presenter. I always love her style and acting. Im glad that the 28-year-old actress returns on "Comet" the movie.

“A beautifully rendered experience that excels on nearly every level”  Awards Circuit

Following the success of the Adam Levine-Kiera Knightley starrer Begin Again, Solar Pictures brings to local cinemas “COMET”-- a cosmic love story that is sure to leave audiences with that warm February feeling.

“Comet,” stars Golden Globe nominee Emmy Rossum (“The Day After Tomorrow,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Mystic River”) and Justin Long (“Live Free or Die Hard,” “He’s Just Not That Into You”).

Comet” is an original modern love story that follows Kimberly (Rossum) and Dell (Long), who first meet at the Hollywood cemetery where they’ve both come to watch a meteor shower.

Kimberly is brilliant and beautiful; Dell is nerdy and pessimistic, but with an incredibly sharp mind and direct manner. While she and he are not a natural pair, they are cosmically drawn to each other and, under a night sky, luminous with falling stars, they begin their epic love story.

As the opening title card states the events “take place over six years (a few parallel universes over).”

But what starts as a typical romance quickly turns dreamlike as viewers leap back and forth in time, examining their eventual six-year relationship through the lens of their meeting and four other pivotal moments: a monumental fight at a friend’s wedding in Paris; a break up conversation after Dell has moved to New York; a reconnection on a train ride along the California coast; and finally, when Dell pops in on Kimberly unexpectedly in her home in the Hollywood Hills.

The leaps between these moments are seamlessly woven together to create a sense that this love story transcends time and space and that Kimberly and Dell are destined to be together, if not in this universe, then maybe the next.

Content Media introduced and screened the film to international distributors for the first time at the 2014 American Film Market (AFM) last November and was then picked up by Solar Pictures, among other films.

“The universal theme and inventive storytelling in ‘Comet’ have us believing that audiences will really connect with the film,” said Content Media President of Film Jamie Carmichael. “We were drawn in immediately and are happy to have this film…”

COMET opens in cinemas nationwide on February 25, 2014 and is released by Solar Pictures.
