Your Go-To Tita on YouTube Spills the Tea on Realities of Adulting

 

Adulting can be tough. It’s a critical phase of trials and errors where young people get to taste the harsh realities of life — especially when it is time to pay the bills. It is also a point in time when this YouTuber got knocked down and was financially drained helping out a friend. But this just made her stronger and wiser as she managed to bounce back now teaching her followers how to be responsible adults based on real-life experiences. 

 

Thea Sy Bautista, one of the most sought-after finance content creators, has had her fair share of mishaps in managing her personal finances. She found herself wiped out when she was just 26 years old after signing an agreement to be her friend’s co-maker. “I was forced to save more than Php 1M to pay for my friend’s debt and coming from a middle-class family, saving this much money is no easy feat. But looking back, if that did not happen, I wouldn’t be able to grow my net worth in a short period of time. I was hungry for improvement so I got creative and made personal sacrifices on how to reboot my finances”, Bautista said. 

And reboot she did. Aside from her day job she turned to her passion for teaching by tutoring high school students after work. She taught Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Physics. “I just posted my UP grad pic on OLX and charged Php 400 per hour, minimum of 2 hours per subject. To my surprise, I checked how much other tutors were charging and discovered I was charging 3x the standard rate.” Bautista said. To be able to earn more and achieve her target faster, she discovered that positioning is key.  

 

She also saw the potential of earning from YouTube back then and started uploading videos in 2018. “Only a few know about this but I did not intend my channel to be about personal finances. I am obsessed with makeup and I envisioned myself to be a beauty vlogger,” Bautista said. But one fateful day, a follower slid into her DMs seeking for financial advice on credit cards knowing she has worked in a bank before. So she posted her video “credit card 101: for beginners (basic pros + cons)” and now has raked in half a million views and counting. She then dropped her makeup kit and focused on her newfound content. 

 

Strike while the iron is hot, as they say, so she followed it up with videos documenting how to be a responsible titain this day and age where she shared wise financial investments, different life hacks, and occasional #titafinds that piqued the interest of many.

 

With her video “real estate investments in your 20s to 30s”, she highlighted the importance of starting at an early age. “Instead of spending for my travels, shopping, and other leisure items, I saved my excess disposable income to purchase my first real estate property in my 20s”, Bautista said. Practicing delayed gratification can be challenging when shopping can be done at your fingertips. “But I always remind my ka-titas and ka-titos that it is okay to spend for as long as they are intentional with their purchases,” Bautista added.

 

While she’s at it, Thea also gave a rundown on her learnings and realizations in her video “saved 1M in a year” in 2021 proving that anyone can do it. “Earning a million in a year is achievable because there are a lot of opportunities out there for you to earn. It all depends on what you will do with those opportunities,” Bautista said. This video was well-received by her followers so she is currently producing another “my first million” series teaching how to be more self-sufficient and be responsible adults when it comes to managing personal finances. 

 

Some may find it daunting to face the music of adulting. But this soon-to-be Registerd Financial Planner stresses the importance of always thinking ahead. “Adulting can be fun. It is just a matter of changing your mindset and making wise decisions in life. There will come a time that you will be thanking your 20-year-old self later,” Bautista said.

JV Ejercito placed it to the Top 12 in almost all of the surveys

"Nobody deserves to live a miserable life." 

“I am in favor of divorce for only one reason--for those that have been psychologically and physically abused by their partners," reelectionist Senator JV Ejercito told us during a press conference held Monday.    

"If the  relationship has become very turbulent and irreconcilable dun I think applicable yung divorce. Kung talagang sinasaktan na physically or emotionally kailangan naman mabigyan ng chance na mabuhay ng maayos because nobody deserves to live a miserable life."

Sen JV said despite being "adopted" by several parties he considers this as the toughest campaign of his political career as he is running as an independent. Getting the endorsement of the President he said as well as the warm reception of the people he meets at the campaign trail motivates him to push through despite his limited funds.  

His hard work it seems is slowly paying off as he already made it to the top 12 in almost all of the surveys, placing as high as number 7.

According to him, the pandemic has exacerbated the weaknesses of the country’s healthcare system and hampered the implementation of the UHC Law. He feels that it his mission and obligation to finish and oversee its implementation. 

 

He also said that the country’s healthcare system suffers from three major problems amidst the COVID-19 pandemic: inadequate healthcare facilities, delayed benefits and privileges for healthcare workers, and mismanagement of the PhilHealth program. All of these can be addressed by the full implementation of the UHC Law, he added. 

INFRASTRUCTURE to unleash potential of Mindanao’s natural resources - JV Ejercito Former Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito said improving Mindanao’s infrastructure will bring the best out of the island's vast natural resources. 

 

Ejercito said Mindanao is in the best position to be one of Asia’s most valuable sources of agricultural products. 

 

“Noong nadaanan ko ang Liguasan March kahapon at yung iba pang areas sa Mindanao, napakayaman talaga ng Mindanao. Talagang gifted ng natural resources. Abundant and very rich ang soil ng Mindanao,” he said. 

 

“We just have to put the necessary infrastructure para ma-tap natin at ma-maximize natin ang potential ng Mindanao to be the fruit basket not only of the Philippines but of Asia,” he added. 

 

Ejercito, who has been advocating for infrastructure development since his first term in the Senate, said constructing an efficient railway system in Mindanao will not only improve the delivery of agricultural goods but also reduce poverty and deter armed conflict on the island. 

 

“Malaking bagay kaya kung maisama pa natin ang railway system dito, nako, talagang sisigla, uusbong ang ekonomiya ng Mindanao. Mawawala na rin, sa tingin ko, ang kaguluhan dito in the next decades,” he said. 

 

The former Senator recently called for the construction of the Mindanao Railway System to promote economic development in conflict-ridden areas and “pave the way for genuine and lasting peace.”

JV Ejercito eyes construction of advanced healthcare facilities in the Visayas 

 

Former Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito said he will push for the enhancement of healthcare facilities in the Visayas and other key areas in the country. 

 

Should he retum to the Senate, Ejercito said he will ensure the full implementation of the Healthcare Facilities Enhancement Program under the Universal Healthcare Law, which he principally sponsored. 

 

“In line with the Universal Healthcare Act, yung Health Facilities Enhancement Program, one of the aim is to put up specialty centers in strategic areas all over the country,” he said in an interview with DYRF Radio Fuerza 

 

“We will establish a lung center, a kidney center, and a heart center and a cancer center sa V. Sotto Medical Center,” he added. 

 

Aside from the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu, specialty health facilities will also be constructed in major hospitals in the Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Bicol, and Davao regions, Ejercito said. 

 

Once these facilities are constructed, the former Senator said patients from different provinces would no longer need to travel to the National Capital Region to secure advanced healthcare services. 

 

“Pag meron tayong complicated cases, Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, they bring it ali there, to the specialty centers (in Metro Manila),” Ejercito said. 

 

“Imagine if you go to Manila, may accommodation, may airfare, may companion pa, times two 0 times three. It’s very expensive and very inconvenient,” he added. 

 

Asking Cebuanos for support, Ejercito said he hopes to return to the Senate to ensure that all Filipinos will benefit from the Universal Healthcare Law. 

 

“My priority is really to survive this COVID-19 pandemic and of course, to implement the Universal Healthcare Act. Hayaan niyo lang ako na tapusin ito. Sana di na po mangyari yung magkasakit lang yung isang miyembro ng pamilya, mauubos ang ating savings, magbebenta tayo ng kagamitan, magsasangla tayo ng lupa,” he said.

The continued unrest of the Taal Volcano forced over 1,000 Filipino families to evacuate to nearby communities in Batangas last March. With Alert Level 3 still in place, these families continue to spend their days in evacuation centers across the region.

 

As part of its commitment to better the lives of the underserved, Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, partnered with several brands and charity organizations to provide aid for Taal evacuees. 

Shopee Philippines Director Martin Yu said, “As we remain steadfast in our commitment to be a force for good, especially in times when Filipinos need it the most, Shopee will work closely with our partners to help provide immediate relief to the evacuees. Our thoughts are with those affected and we hope that the situation in Taal will recover soon for these families to be able to return to their homes.”

 

Together with Shopee, partner brands such as Universal Robina Corporation, Colgate, and Monde Nissin, donated essentials such as drinking water and food items to affected residents. Through the help of its Shopee Xpress fleet and volunteers, Shopee transported and coursed donations through the ABS-CBN Foundation for the latter’s ongoing on-ground efforts. 

 

These Shopee Xpress volunteers also helped collate and distribute potable water donated by the Luzon Clean Water Development to evacuation centers in Batangas.

 

Shopee also invites users to donate to those affected by the taal eruption and other emergencies through its partner charities found on the app. 

Users simply need to:

Dylan Clark (the Planet of the Apes films) and Reeves produced the film, with Michael E. Uslan, Walter Hamada, Chantal Nong Vo and Simon Emanuel serving as executive producers.
