theAsianparent and Team BakuNanay continue the movement to fight vaccine misinformation in the country

theAsianparent and Team BakuNanay, with the support of Sanofi and other

community partners, continue the movement to fight vaccine misinformation in the country

with its nationwide campaign entitled, Building a BakuNation.

The campaign’s aim is to create a scaled-up version of its predecessor, the Team

BakuNanay vaccine confidence campaign. BakuNanay stands for BAKUNA NANAY,

representing a group of active moms from theAsianparent community who believe that

vaccines are indeed effective and can help to protect their family from diseases.

Team BakuNanay was a result of a 2020 poll conducted by theAsianparent on their app,

which found that 45% of Pinoy moms refused to have their children vaccinated by their

pediatricians due to their fear of possible vaccine side effects. Within a year after launching,

the Team BakuNanay community grew from 85 members to more than 9,000; positive

sentiment increased by 15%; and 70% of Filipino mothers have agreed to have their children

vaccinated according to a follow-up poll by theAsianparent. The campaign also launched a

series of webinars that had a collective reach of 845,250 and over 110 thousand

engagements. This successful run also led to the campaign bagging the Silver Award for

Excellence in Customer Engagement and the finalist spot in the KOL/Influencer Marketing

category at the 2021 Marketing Excellence Awards.

This time, through the Building a BakuNation campaign, the goal is to leverage the success

of Team BakuNanay and continue its strong desire to keep children and communities safe

by fighting vaccine misinformation in the country. In Building a BakuNation, parents can

learn more about diseases and their impact, share their experiences on vaccine use for their

kids, ask questions, and give and receive advice from others. During the online media

launch hosted by Community Manager of Team BakuNanay and Davao-based

BakuNanay herself, Ara Casas-Tumuran, parents, media friends, noted guests, and

viewers from all over the country were introduced to the Building a BakuNation campaign

with lots of engaging videos, trivia, Q&A, and exciting contests.

Carla Perlas - VP for Communications at

theAsianparent

“Health is a love language,” according to Carla Perlas - VP for Communications at

theAsianparent, as she takes pride in how the campaign continues to go onward and

upward and supports theAsianparent's mission to help parents have healthy pregnancies

and raise healthy families.

BakuNanay Babzee Ferrer

As a mom who gave birth during the COVID-19 pandemic, mommy influencer and

shares her reflections on how Team BakuNanay and the whole

community has helped her gain the right information on vaccines by participating and joining

webinars that theAsianparent and Team BakuNanay have conducted in partnership with

different credible organizations such as the Department of Health and Healthy Pilipinas

throughout the year.

Candice Venturanza, Head of Content of theAsianparent also extends her appreciation

to the Team BakuNanay community as they strive to help drive the movement for

spreading the right and factual information on vaccines, and stressed to viewers that parents

should provide vaccines just like how food is important to their kids.

With an inspiring video pledge featuring moms from across the nation and speaking their

local dialects, to various support from private and public organizations such as Sanofi, DOH

and various parenting communities, Building a BakuNation’s aim is to acquire 750,000

pledges by the end of 2022. This highly inclusive community is not just for moms but all

members of the family, where everyone is encouraged to be mindful of their vaccinations

and taking the opportunity to avail these for free at their local health centers, and continue to

encourage member sign-ups from all over the country to join the advocacy to fight both

misinformation and disinformation / increase vaccine confidence.

This exciting campaign is not only exclusive online, but will also feature various

collaborations with theAsianparent Philippines’ supporters from mommy and parent

foodpanda honors single mom Ka-Panda walker in Dagupan

It’s been said that anything that a man can do, a woman can do as well. That certainly holds true for the fast-growing quick-commerce industry, where women delivery workers make up a significant chunk of the workforce, thanks to food delivery apps like foodpanda. One of the industry’s leading names and known for their eye-catching brand, foodpanda is also known for giving opportunities to Filipinos regardless of gender to become “Ka Panda” delivery partners.

While we are more familiar with the sight of them on a motorcycle or a bicycle, you might be surprised that others also deliver food on foot– and in foodpanda’s case, these workers are affectionately called ‘Ka-Panda walkers’. For the leading quick-commerce digital platform, having walkers opens up opportunities for those who are non-drivers or do not own a vehicle to still make a living – like 43-year-old Sheila Macabenta, who holds the distinction of being foodpanda’s lone walker in the Dagupan area.

A 43-year old Ka-Panda partner walker and single mother, Sheila Macabenta has been delivering food on foot for almost a year now to foodpanda customers in Dagupan City

Always jumping from one job to another before becoming a Ka-Panda walker, Sheila is no stranger to hardships. As a single mother and sole provider to her 3 kids, she did not mind these setbacks in the past.

Like any mother, what kept her going is the desire to take care of her children. Her resilience prevailed when one day, while browsing through social media, she saw a job posting on the foodpanda riders' Facebook Page. “Na-amaze at na-curious ako sa trabaho ng isang Ka-Panda walker kaya nag-decide ako mag-apply,” she recounts.

For Sheila, being a Ka-Panda walker is rewarding, but the job also comes with its fair share of challenges – from the unpredictable weather she faces every day to the long walks to deliver her orders. But none of them compares to the fulfillment of being able to support the needs of her family.

One thing she also learned from her experience is that respect and determination in her line of work are important. “Pag nagtatrabaho, kailangan ng tiyaga at respeto. Walang trabahong pang-babae o pang-lalaki lang. Basta’t kaya, magpatuloy lang dahil walang madali sa umpisa.

As we celebrate our ilaw ng tahanan this month, we also honor single parents like her who act as both mother and father, working tirelessly to provide for their families.

No matter what obstacles or hurdles she faced – whether as a single mother or a woman Ka-Panda walker – Sheila has proven that with eagerness and dedication, nothing is impossible. Mothers like her who are able to juggle working and taking care of their families are always an inspiration, and there’s no better gift than making them feel both our love and respect.

So will Sheila keep on “walking” for foodpanda and their customers? “Kahit ilang kilometro man ang kailangang lakarin, hindi ako magsasawang maghatid ng orders sa mga customers namin,” she says.

“Kahit ano mang pagsubok, basta’t andyan ang pamilya ko at mga customers na patuloy na sumasaludo sa ginagawa ko, kakayanin ko. Tuloy lang sa lakad ng buhay.”

The most breathtaking Baguio sites showcased on The Broken Marriage Vow

The log houses we all wish our parents own plus Baguio’s pine trees and gorgeous mountain views fill the backdrop of the emotional roller coaster hit drama series that is The Broken Marriage Vow.

Almost every episode lands on the trending pages of social media platforms. The show has become so popular it’s now one of the top titles on streaming platform Viu, made cheaper and more accessible through a Viu Premium account powered by PLDT Home.

The marriage of Dr. Jill Victorino (Jodi Sta. Maria) and David Ilustre (Zanjoe Marudo) may have crumbled because of his affair with Lexy Lucero (Sue Ramirez). Yet, as we’re watching the frustrating and heartbreaking moments, we can’t help but think, “Tara, let’s go to Baguio!”

Beyond the riveting drama, we also find ourselves captivated by the sights all found within our Summer Capital. Raring to travel again? Here are a few of the series’ most iconic filming locations you, too, can visit while channeling your inner drama heroine!

Burnham Park

Located in downtown Baguio, Burnham Park is the city’s most famous park. Here, you can go boating on colorful swan boats, people-watch by the lake, even ride a bike. If you’re Dr. Jill, however, the park designed by Daniel Burnham may just be the perfect place for you to take a walk to clear your mind — and maybe plan your revenge — after discovering your husband is into some monkey business.

Camp John Hay

Surrounded by pine trees, fresh air, and the most amazing log cabins, Camp John Hay is a no-brainer must-visit for anyone visiting Baguio. To really complete the healing nature-filled experience, go enjoy the green scene and have a meal in Chef Billie King’s Le Chef Restaurant at the Manor.

Camp John Hay is more than just a sanctuary for our The Broken Marriage Vow family — in fact, it’s where most of the drama goes down.

White House of the Lord of Scents

In real life, the White House of the Lord of Scents is the abode of fragrance mogul Joel Cruz in Camp John Hay. While not a public tourist destination, it has become an attraction of its own because of its signature floor-to-ceiling windows that highlight its sweeping spiral staircase.

This is also where the show’s most iconic scene (colloquially called the batukan scene) happens. Knowing her husband is cheating with the daughter of the wealthy Luceros, Jill decides to invite themselves to dinner at the Lucero house for a grand confrontation.

Baguio Country Club

This is where Lexy Lucero’s parents often meet Jill — either as friends hanging out over lunch or in later episodes as enemies trading barbs as they are too civilized to go at each other’s throats.

The famous 117-year-old landmark isn’t just home to the best raisin bread and banana bread in the country, it also offers some of Baguio's most breathtaking views!

Kennon Road

While definitely picturesque, Kennon Road is also among the country’s most hazardous thoroughfares. Cliffs bracket the narrow road, making for a very steep fall if one is not careful. The tragedy snaking through this beauty fits the outwardly perfect Ilustre family finally succumbing to its own troubles.

In a scene shot along Kennon Road, Gio confronts his mother for not having time for him while Jill tries to console him. Jill soon realizes the gravity of the situation, now taking a toll on her conflicted child. It’s a raw moment that zooms in on children often becoming the biggest victims of a broken family.

We live for the nonstop scandal and drama of The Broken Marriage Vow, but we also find comfort in how directors Connie Macatuno and Andoy Ranay handle touchier subjects on the show.

Entertainment made better (and cheaper) at home!

See the drama on The Broken Marriage Vow unfold further in Baguio’s sights to behold — through a Viu Premium access powered by PLDT Home’s fastest and most reliable connections! Enjoy more of the hottest Asian content with no ads and same-day subtitled releases for select titles at just P80/month, the cheapest in the Philippines and already charged to your account!
