HUAWEI MatePad SE 10.4: First impressions

Huawei is set to release the latest member of its popular tablets. The Huawei MatePad SE is a 10.4-inch tablet that is designed to be a mobile entertainment device that the entire family can pass around and share. It features a large HUAWEI FullView display, dual speakers and High Performance Antenna to deliver the ultimate immersive experience for who love watching movies, do online shopping or just browse the internet or keep updated with their social media feed.

I was able to try out the Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 and I was quite intrigued by the display, its lightweight design and it does seem like a great option for those who want a bigger secondary screen for consuming all sorts of media or maybe use it for their online meetings.

What’s in the box?

The HUAWEI MatePad SE 10.4 comes in a standard white box with a photo of the tablet in front. Inside the box are your standard items which include paper documents such as the warranty card and quick start guide, a sim tray ejector tool, USB-A to USB-C cable and a charging adapter. The LTE version includes a Free tablet case.

The HUAWEI MatePad SE 10.4 boasts a stylish design, featuring a micro-curved corner at the middle frame that gives the device a slimmer appearance and improved grip. Its lightweight construction, combined with its ergonomic design, ensures that the tablet remains comfortable to hold for extended periods, despite its size.

Unlike other tablets I’ve used in the past, the HUAWEI MatePad SE 10.4 is noticeably lighter weighing only 440g. If you are someone who frequently uses a tablet in bed, you understand the dangers of holding a heavy device over your face, particularly if you suddenly fall asleep while doing so.

As this tablet is meant to be a Mobile Home Theatre its highlight feature is its large 10.4 inch, LCD IPS (FHD+ 2000 × 1200) 2K display. It offers boundless viewing via its FullView display, with an 83 percent screen-to-body ratio and ultra-narrow 8.5mm bezels. It has a 16.7 million colors saturation (NTSC): 70.8% (typical value) with 4096 levels auto brightness adjustment.

Looking at your screen for a long time can be difficult on the eyes that is why Huawei puts eye protection as one of its top priorities. The Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 has passed TÜ V Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification and Flicker Free Certification, proven to effectively eliminate screen flickers and reduce blue light emissions.

To enable this just go to settings and enable Eye comfort mode and stay free from eye fatigue from the blue light.

The HUAWEI MatePad SE 10.4 also comes with four layers of eye-protection including: Posture Alerts As many people like to watch TV or play games when lying flat this position making them prone to having higher pressure in their eyes and eye fatigue. HUAWEI MatePad SE 10.4-inch is equipped with a built-in gravity sensor that works in combination with the Huawei algorithms to determine if the user is lying flat and prompt the user to change their positioning to reduce pressure.

Then there’s Huawei’s leading blue light filtering technology changes the colour temperature, providing a warner light with a higher wavelength to reduce the strain on the eyes.

Lots of passengers use tablets in the car, especially when on a long journey. However, using a tablet while moving or shaking can put strain on your child’s eyes. With Huawei’s bumpy road alerts, it can to detect if it is being used while in a moving vehicle or walking to ensure the safety of the user and further protect eyesight.

Lastly, this tablet includes technology that can change the screen to resemble that of a physical book. This provides both a quality reading experience, as well as further protecting users’ eyes.

You can enjoy a more engaging audio experience as well as it is equipped with dual speakers that is further enhanced by HUAWEI Histen 8.0 technology.

I don’t know about you but I enjoy making and taking video calls on my tablet rather than my phone because of its big screen. This is especially true when I’m calling my elder parents because not only can they see me clearer, they could also hear me better because of the louder speakers. The Huawei MatePad SE has a 2MP that is just enough for making those calls and 5MP rear camera for quick snaps.

With dual symmetrical speaker system tuned by HUAWEI Histen 8.0 technology, HUAWEI MatePad SE 10.4 can widen surround sound field and enhance human voice, making each call, line in the film, and online class ensuring people at noisy environment will be able to hear you with no worries.

The HUAWEI MatePad SE 10.4 is powered by the Snapdragon 680 chipset with 4 × Cortex-A73 2.4 GHz + 4 × Cortex-A53 1.9 GHz and Adreno 610 GPU which gives it enough power to make everyday use of your tablets a smooth experience. Huawei is offering this tablet in either 3GB or 4GB RAM and you also have to option to get a 32GB, 64GB or 128GB storage.

For games and applications, the Huawei App Gallery is your main option and its now stacked with all the apps you’d need for your tablet. Should you need to install Google apps, you can download GBox. This new updated version is more refined and makes it easier to access Gmail, GDrive, Photos and the rest of Google proprietary apps.

Powering the Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 is a 5000mAh batter which should be good for a day of moderate usage.

With a large 10.4-inch 2K high-definition display, a lightweight design and stereo speakers, the Huawei MatePad SE 10.4 is worth checking out especially for those looking for a budget tablet for their family entertainment and browsing needs.
