SB19 Joins Puregold's Stellar OPM Lineup!

Puregold has officially confirmed its collaboration with Pinoy boy band sensation SB19, much to the excitement of every A’Tin across the Philippines. The group, often hailed as the “Kings of P-Pop,” teased the collaboration for weeks prior to Puregold’s official announcement made through Instagram posts and stories of them having fun riding Puregold shopping carts.

SB19, comprising Josh, Pablo, Stell, Ken, and Justin, has been at the forefront of the P-Pop movement. Their journey, from their debut marked by rigorous group training sessions to their current status as world-class performers, affirms how immense talent and dedication can drive anyone to succeed. Today, SB19’s music resonates with fans not just in the Philippines but across the globe, attesting to their international appeal.

The past year, however, was not without challenges. Following the release of their latest album, Pagtatag, and while on their first world tour, SB19 had to grapple with the stress and loneliness of being away from home. The group also left their previous management and started their own—a massive undertaking in terms of artistic independence and freedom.

Undeterred by the speed bumps, the SB19 hopes to use such learning experiences in making their most intense and genuine art to date. Through a collaboration with Puregold, SB19 hopes to tell their panalo story of strength and resilience and remind every Filipino of the same fortitude that resides in their heart.

Alongside Flow G, BINI, and SunKissed Lola, SB19 is a shining example of the growth and triumph of Original Pilipino Music. Puregold, in its commitment to supporting local music, is set to sustain this trend with its upcoming musical projects.

realme Philippines contributes to the rehabilitation efforts of PAWS

In an effort to champion animal welfare, realme Philippines has taken a step forward by donating to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), a distinguished non-governmental organization committed to the rights and well-being of animals.

In partnership with local pet supplies brand Petsup, both companies contributed P100,000 in monetary aid, alongside P50,000 worth of realme products and an additional P50,000 worth of Petsup items.

realme Philippines representatives, together with members of Petsup visited the PAWS headquarters in Quezon City last April 30 to personally deliver the donations and gain firsthand insight into the organization's operations.

PAWS expressed gratitude and emphasized that company donations support their programs, especially the rehabilitation of their animal shelters and the rescue efforts for animals suffering cruelty and neglect.

“Usually, people say that only animals can love you unconditionally. [By] helping these animals, you'll see in their eyes that they are not damaged goods, and they need people like you to help them support their rehabilitation,” Sharon Yap, PAWS Education Officer, said.

To create positive change, Yap said that pet owners should practice spaying and neutering for their pets and encourage others to do so. She stated, "You can start by being responsible pet owners and having a lifetime commitment to your pets. And if you cannot give monetary donations, you can donate your time by volunteering here at the organization."

Patricia Gonzales, realme Philippines' Communications Lead, hopes the collaborative initiative will inspire others to take action regarding the country's concerning cases of animal cruelty.

Gonzales added, “Our collaboration with Petsup and PAWS shows our commitment to fostering a community that values empathy and kindness towards animals. We hope that our donation, especially the brand new units of realme Note 50, will help streamline the activities and efforts of PAWS."

Using their platforms and resources, realme and Petsup have significantly impacted the lives of numerous animals and highlighted the importance of advocating for animal welfare and contributing to causes that promote compassion, empathy, and social responsibility towards animals.

5 Reasons Condos Make Ideal Homes for New Families

The journey into parenthood is a profound and life-altering experience. Parents’ world usually revolves around their little one, and the baby’s well-being and happiness guide every decision. As a result, the home becomes more than just a place to live; it’s a sanctuary where parents nurture, protect, and create lasting memories with their growing family.

Condominiums can be an ideal home for growth-beginning households. Their convenient locations, safety features, and amenities embody the essence of family-centric living. MIRA, a Nordic-inspired property in Quezon City, is a perfect example of a sanctuary that supports and nurtures families.

Find out the reasons why condominium living is suitable for the unique needs and lifestyles of families:

Safety and security

One key advantage of condominiums is they typically have security personnel 24/7 to keep residents safe and secure. This feature definitely helps protect the peace of mind of residents, especially moms and dads. For MIRA, the property takes safety and security seriously as all units have a smart lock feature and an AV intercom so parents can quickly check who is at the door. Moreover, the property has state-of-the-art security features, including round-the-clock security, CCTV surveillance, and secure access controls. On top of these, selected common areas in MIRA can also be accessed via RFID.

Convenience and accessibility

Another significant advantage of condominium living is its convenience since majority of these developments are located in key urban areas where almost everything is within reach. MIRA’s strategic location in Quezon City provides easy access to hospitals such as World Citi Medical Center, St. Luke’s Medical Center QC, and Quirino Memorial Medical Center, schools like Jubilee Christian Academy, Ateneo De Manila University, and University of the Philippines, transportation hubs including the LRT Line 2, and commercial areas namely Shopwise, Gateway and Ali Mall, making daily errands and outings with the family a breeze. Everything, whether it’s a grocery, school, or hospital, is just a stone’s throw away, even perfect for starting parents who are adjusting to the new responsibilities and lifestyle.

Community and support

Condominiums also foster a community that is invaluable for parents. MIRA’s family-centric amenities such as the outdoor landscaped areas, pet park, and glamping nooks allow residents to connect with each other and build a support network. The shared experiences and bonds formed within the community can significantly enhance the overall well-being of new and even growing families.

Low-maintenance lifestyle

Condo living promises a low-maintenance lifestyle, ideal for parents who juggle multiple responsibilities. MIRA’s well-designed spaces and amenities require minimal upkeep, allowing moms and dads to focus more on their family and personal well-being. At MIRA, residents may also book essential services like water delivery, housekeeping, laundry, and more right within the comforts of their home through the Ring Rob Concierge. In addition, condo payment settlements, form requests for permits and passes with the myRLC Home App are also plus conveniences.

Access to amenities

A wide range of amenities is one of the biggest perks of condo living. MIRA boasts a variety of recreational facilities, including wellness and recreational zones. The property’s amenities also cater to the needs of children through the indoor and outdoor play areas, pet park, kiddie pool, and glamping nooks. These provide endless opportunities to relax, have fun together, and grow. Moms can enjoy the amenities without worry, as the onsite clinic offers easy access to healthcare.

RLC Residences continues to Raise, Live, Connect with MIRA

“Families have always been our inspiration in designing MIRA. We envision this development as a home where they can grow and thrive together through amenities and home features that are specifically tailored to their needs. We hope that MIRA can be a home where new parents can raise their kids so they can all live smart and productive while staying connected to people and places that matter to them,” says RLC Residences Marketing Head and Chief Integration Officer  Karen Cesario.

PNP Chief Marbil outlined shared goals, including an integrated and more effective 911 emergency system

During a recent media gathering at DarkRoast Coffee House in the City, 30th Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Rommel Francisco Marbil outlined shared goals, including an integrated and more effective 911 emergency system, legal assistance for police officers, and enhancing the PNP's reputation for greater respect.

The new PNP chief likewise acknowledged the dedication of police officers, particularly in tasks like combating illegal drugs, and pledged to establish legal support for personnel facing court charges linked to their duties. He also underscored the significance of prioritizing the well-being of police officers to enhance their effectiveness in serving the community.

Chief Marbil has endorsed President Bongbong Marcos’s non-violent strategy for tackling drug-related issues, highlighting a significant drug bust involving over two tons of shabu on April 15 that occurred without any casualties. Upon his appointment as the head of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Marbil committed to prioritizing human rights and reducing street killings in the government’s enhanced anti-drug campaign. He has promised that the PNP will carry out anti-drug operations leading to thousands of arrests and the confiscation of illegal drugs valued in the millions, all while ensuring no fatalities occur.

Furthermore, to boost the effectiveness of the police force, he has implemented a ban on the use of mobile phones during duty hours to ensure that officers remain focused on their responsibilities. All police personnel are advised to avoid unnecessary phone usage while on duty, and there are plans to increase police presence in communities. Under Marbil’s leadership, the PNP is dedicated to maintaining high standards of professionalism, integrity, and service to ensure the safety and security of the Filipino people.

As the event concluded, Chief Marbil expressed gratitude to the organizers for providing a platform to share his vision for the Philippine National Police. “I am grateful to the organizers for this event because it gives me a better chance to meet all media people, not just those assigned in our organization. I hope we could all work harmoniously for our country and for our safety,” he remarked.

Mama Knows Best: Hilarious Yet Practical Filipino Mom Moments from Childhood

Without a doubt, mothers really care more about their children.

However, an article published in Psychology Today argues that a woman’s inclination to supposedly care more about her child is a practical function more than a biological one. Mothers often spend more time with their children because, in many cultures, it is traditionally the women who are left to care for the children. Hence, mothers are not necessarily better parents than fathers. Men and women, too, share the responsibility of taking care of their children.

In any case, anyone who has been raised by a Filipino mother can attest that their nanay can definitely take it up a notch in terms of child care. And as we all know, the Filipino community is heavily family-centric. So maybe it’s just the Filipino tendency to be a bit extra.

In any case, Filipino children definitely have a funny anecdote or two about how their mothers raised them. To honor Mother’s Day, here are some cute things our nanays have done while taking care of us:

•Preparing clothes very meticulously—including placing a bimpo on your back, buying terno or matching pieces of clothing for you and your siblings, and sewing or altering the clothes herself if she finds them too revealing.

Funny as it may seem but let’s face it. These made for cute pictures and core memories!

•Enforcing naps every afternoon

Imagine this. You attend classes every morning and arrive from school a little after noon. You eat lunch your mother prepared for you, you watch a bit of television. Then, in comes your mother commanding you to stop whatever it is you are doing because it is nap time—and you are not allowed to do anything else until you take that nap.

Now, science tells us that a well-time nap can provide your brain with a little boost. But why would a child, with all that boundless energy and no immediate major life responsibilities, need an afternoon nap? Who knows except your mother whose insistence on naps likely ingrained that practice in your brain, or turned you off from naps forever.

But as adults now, we all cherish a few minutes of nap time – even for just 5 minutes to recharge. It really makes a huge difference!

Taking care of you when you’re sick by giving you a hot towel scrub (because she said a full bath or shower can make you feel worse) and a heavy dose of mentholated topical ointment.

It may have smelled funny back then but those ointments provide great relief for colds and migraines!

Scaring you with unimaginable creatures to prevent you from staying out late

It’s understandable that your nanay wouldn’t want you staying out too late, playing in the neighborhood streets with your friends. But instead of just imposing a curfew—something you became quite familiar with when you got older—some mothers resorted to the scare tactic. Specifically, telling you that a monster or halimaw or a stranger on a motorcycle will kidnap you if you are not at home at a certain time. While the concern is understandable—some neighborhoods aren’t safe at night, after all—did our mothers have to resort to something that could lead to trauma?

But in hindsight, it did keep us more aware of our surroundings. It’s better to be safe than sorry!

Insisting that you finish the food on your plate every meal and telling you that certain food items can make you grow taller

The rice may have been too much for your appetite to handle as a kid. Having to finish the entire meal was indeed a huge task for us. But looking back, we have all reaped the nutritional benefits of a full meal!

•Experiencing her hoarding tendencies

Your mother liked keeping the containers of all the food items she buys. So, naturally, this practice trickled down to you. Even though you have a proper baunan for your school lunches, your ulam are likely stored in a different container every time. Your lunch probably included a sachet of ketchup or two—which she got for free from your trips to your favorite fast food chain. And who could forget the Pinoy classic: the ice cream tub that has fish inside and biscuit containers that actually contain her sewing accouterments.

Let’s face it. Storage also requires a budget. Those plastic microwavables would also cost a few bucks - most especially the fancy ones. So the most practical way to store is to reuse, but maybe not for our baon.

Understanding her special, secret language

The Filipino mother is prone to using a sort of language that only she and her children can understand. Her “psst” spells fear inside the household and her “bahala ka sa buhay mo” means you actually better do what she told you. A single shriek of “Anak!” or your name means you better run to her—and quickly. And she better not start counting “Isa, dalawa…” Of course, even though she says the most generic expressions, you knew what they meant immediately.

While these child-rearing practices can already be considered funny—and sometimes questionable—by today’s standards, what remains true is that many of these motherly practices come from a place of genuine Filipino love and care.

This Mother’s Day, return the favor by giving your beloved mother a special and unique gift. Fortunately, RCBC Credit Cards offer promos that can make buying a gift for your mother easier. You may send her flowers and get 25% OFF + FREE Shipping on blooms and gifts via FlowerStore.ph App, or perhaps a staycation at Joy Nostalg and get 25% OFF on stay and up to 40% OFF dining deals.

Sustainable Mining: Empowering Communities and Driving Economic Growth

Mining companies underline the need to balance economic and social development with environmental stewardship to tap the full potential of the Philippine mining industry

Mining companies are calling on industry stakeholders to strengthen support for responsible mining, underlining the industry’s untapped potential to further drive economic growth and support social development at the national and local level, while fostering environmental stewardship.

Mining company representatives echoed the sentiment as the industry gathered to launch “Living with a Brighter Future,” a documentary developed as part of the industry’s Better Mining, Brighter Future communication and advocacy campaign. The campaign, which aims to raise awareness about responsible mining, is a joint initiative of the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines; the Philippine Nickel Industry Association; the Chamber of Mines - Caraga; the Alliance of Responsible MIners and Operators - Visayas; the Eastern Rizal Minders Association; the Mindanao Association of Responsible Quarry Operators Foundation, Inc.; and the Philippine Mining & Exploration Association.

The "Living with a Brighter Future" documentary provides a comprehensive narrative of responsible mining practices, portraying the collaborative efforts between mining companies, local communities, and local government units. Through the eyes of company representatives and community members, the documentary showcased the positive socio-economic impact and environmental sustainability initiatives of the mining industry across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

“Mining companies have made substantial contributions to local communities through its Social Development and Management Program or SDMP. Additionally, the industry’s environmental commitments have been significant,” said Atty. Mike Toledo, Chairperson of the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines.

From 2002 and 2027, mining companies have pledged a total of PHP 31.81 billion towards SDMP initiatives, with PHP 20.3 billion earmarked for the period spanning 2002 to 2024. Since 2002, SDMPs have positively impacted over 1,160 barangays across the country.

SDMPs serve as a collaborative platform where mining companies, the local government, and the community come together to bridge the gaps in both physical and social infrastructures within the communities they operate in. Through constant consultations with the host and neighboring communities, mining projects are able to meet the needs of residents and offer impactful solutions that yield both immediate and long-term benefits. During the event’s panel discussion, industry leaders highlighted initiatives such as employment creation, education and healthcare investments, infrastructure development, and the preservation of indigenous culture through programs like the IP Culture Revitalization Program.

On the other hand, the Philippine mining industry has provided PHP 387.81 billion, as of December 2023, to environmental protection and enhancement programs. In addition, the mining industry has committed PHP 6.72 billion for the rehabilitation of decommissioned mines. One concrete example of the initiatives of the industry is the number of trees planted where, as of December 2023, more than 50 million seedlings covering almost 45 hectares of land have been planted by the industry. Of these planted trees, approximately 90% have survived.

“Through innovation and modern technologies, the mining sector is reducing its environmental footprint and paving the way for a future where economic development and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Progressive rehabilitation efforts, coupled with investments in reforestation and environmental protection, demonstrate the industry's commitment to responsible stewardship of natural resources,” Atty. Toledo added.

The documentary highlighted that the industry contributed PHP 170.1 billion (in current prices) to the Philippines’ GDP in 2022 alone and employed over 212,000 individuals as of 2023.

In his keynote presentation, PWC Partner, Mr. Pocholo Domondon further reiterated the industry’s economic contributions citing NEDA’s 2023 Philippine Development Report which stated that while there was an 18.5 percent decline in the total net FDI, significant contributions were still noted for manufacturing, transportation and storage, and mining and quarrying in terms of increased net equity FDI. In the same report, the government also listed the fiscal regime for mining as one of the tax measures that the government is discussing as part of efforts to achieve its fiscal targets until 2028. Further, the government has also cited the mining sector, along with the manufacturing sector, as essential sectors expected to support the government’s 4PH program. The 4PH program aims to build 1 million housing units yearly until 2028.

As the industry moves forward, their collective commitment underscores a shared vision for a sustainable future where responsible mining plays a pivotal role in driving economic growth, fostering social development, and preserving the environment for generations to come.

Xiaomi and Haribon Foundation take the step in forest restoration

Xiaomi continues making an impact in the Philippines as the Xiaomi Fans Community (XFC), took part in Haribon Foundation’s Native Tree Nursery Activities at the Buhay Punlaan in Lumban, Laguna. A group of 30 Xiaomi fans and staff worked together to accomplish this as part of the top tech brand’s 14th-anniversary celebration.

XFC members collectively prepared native tree seedlings to contribute to Haribon’s Forests for Life Movement, which brings together local communities to restore lost forests and mangroves in the Philippines. These seedlings play a crucial role in the continuous forest restoration initiatives in protected areas within Sierra Madre.

The activity also contributes to rebuilding a healthy ecosystem amid the high deforestation rate in the Philippines, which will give Filipinos a sustainable future.

“We want everyone to experience iconic moments in every aspect of their lives with the help of our Xiaomi products. But we also want to create iconic moments that have a positive impact on our society with the help of the Xiaomi Fans Community,” says Tomi Adrias, Xiaomi Philippines’ Head of Marketing.

“We look forward to working more with our community in spearheading significant projects that create a positive impact in our communities, country, and the world.”

This is just one of many initiatives that Xiaomi has lined up for its anniversary campaign. Earlier this month, the brand hosted the Xiaomi Fan Festival Iconic Concert, which was headlined by P-pop group and #TeamRedmiNote member SB19, as a way to thank Xiaomi fans for their unwavering support.

With its diverse line of smartphones and AIoT products, Xiaomi believes in making technology accessible to Filipinos. The brand also aims to make lives better through innovation and advocacies, like its partnership with Haribon Foundation.
